If you have staggered set-up then they should be

225 40 18 fronts
255 35 18 rears

If they are the same width rims front and rear then

225 40 18

The set up above will give you a better ride with staggered wheels

If it was me, I wouldn't worry about it until the fronts have worn out, then change them for the 225/40 size as recommended.

As far as the MOT is concerned, it's fine to have different sized tyres from front to back so long as the smaller is at the front, which it is in your case.

I'd use a different MOT station if they are refusing to pass it because of the tyres.

Ahh, I see...

Then yes, a 225/40 tyre will improve the ride slightly compared to what you have now.

If your existing tyres have decent tread, you could always ebay them to get back some funds. Tyres seem to do quite well on there in my experience.

CLK tires

Does any know if a size larger/wider 265/35/18 and 235/40/18 would work on a W209 CLK? Or is the wheel clearance too tight?
