It's not often one gets a problem with an SLK, but we have one (two) that has been slowly getting worse and that is the heater fan sounds like it has a slight bearing whine on low to 4th speed. The fan noise speeds up when you rev the engine and slows down again when the revs drop. At first we thought it was normal transmission whine. However if you switch the fan off there is no grindy type of noise from behind the dash. It's been like this now for the good few months.......Well 8 months now and only just getting around to asking on the forum since I was driving it today, and the Missus keeps on about it because it is getting worse.
Would I be right in thinking it could be a fan bearing and a dash out job to repair?

Many thanks in advance.
Peter

Oh and while I have your attention, the boot lid wont open with the key fob or handle, just clicks like something has disconnected, so I had to use the key blade this morning :( The Missus said, 'That's only just happened'!

Does the boot not "pop" open when the button is pressed on the key?

I thin you can get to the fan from the passenger footwell (although that could be completely wrong...) I know I have to do something about the one in the 911, I've replaced it once a few years ago but it only works on one speed now

Thanks for your reply Rus.
No the boot lid wont pop open, just clicks, the same as when you pull the handle.

Hope the fan isn't a complete dash out, I have a look and remove some of the trim in the foot well should help, Darn not having a garage!

Thank you Rus, that doesn't look too daunting at all, much easier than changing the Duo Valve on an S211 :)...................Thanks Stewart and Wisbey :D
