Well over 2wks after picking up our VW Golf we are still constantly on the phone to them regarding lots of minor things that we are not happy with:

The stain on the leather rear seat
The front tyre that we are waiting to be replaced
The second key that has been 'lost'
The missing ashtray
The missing First Aid Kit, which allegedly only comes with VW cars on the continent, I guess they assume we don't have accidents here

Today things got even worse. My partner was driving over to Chesham on the A41M doing about 60 when he heard a loud bang. An inner wheel arch suddenly became visible in the rear window, which it seems he had just run over

When he was able to pull over and have a look at the car it seems, as he had suspected, it was from our car. This very same arch was one that he had noticed was hanging down prior to purchase and had asked VW to fix, which they said they had and as it was no longer hanging down, they had obviously done something to it.

The rapid departure of the plastic arch has distorted the outer wing lip and put a bulge in the side of the wing, so it now has to go back to VW in Colindale to be repaired.

Reluctantly they are giving us a loan car whilst it is being repaired, after much haggling.

I am just glad it wasn't me driving as I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on

And people moan about Mercedes

Sorry to hear of your problems :(, although it's good you posted as we do get fixated with all of the issues with MB. Whilst you are still within the 30 days I would work really hard on your garage to sort it all out.

I think I would be looking at my money back and go looking elsewhere LB, as cars are never the same after repairs.

I'm not sure we would get our money back. We have a 30 day exchange and when I read that it just says if you aren't happy with your car you can exchange it for another one at the same dealership. They don't have any other Golfs that are auto with leather.

I would be asking questions why the inner arch was hanging of in the first place [had the car been involved in an accident] and why did they let the car go out with a tyre that needs replaced.

Then you have to ask yourself why did you accept the car when it had a stain on the leather rear seat ------------------ that has not been removed
The front tyre that needs replaced ---------- was not replaced.
The second key that has been 'lost' --------- And was not replaced
The missing ashtray --------- And was not replaced
The missing First Aid Kit

Well I just got off the phone to VW Customer Care to see if they can help me sort the problems out.

The car goes back next Monday to Citygate Colindale for all the above problems and we are hoping they get them sorted, or I will be back onto Customer Care again and again until I am happy or at least happyish.

Well the trains are now all on shelves after my partner decided on a whim to take down the layout he had spent a year building

Some days he says he will sell them and extend the house, other days he says he might build a smaller layout

I think he might be having a midlife crisis ;)

Well if he's having a midlife crisis then the normal option is a two seater sports car. May I be so bold as to recommend an SLK or SL  :D  :p

Lol, agree with that, I serviced my brother in law's "Sportster" a while back, it was like working on a 2 wheeled tractor.

You should be able to sue HD for calling it a 'sportster' unless weightlifting is the sport they meant :p. BTW for servicing did you replace the firelighters and fill up the coal bunker :D.
Although I shouldn't talk with a bike that has a stolen Douglas designed engine from the early 1900's.

You have more rights than you think you have....you're a consumer and the laws are on your side. Personally, I would seek advice from Trading Standards. In the meantime, check out this link:-

He's done all that already

Years ago before I even knew him he was into restoring sports cars and had a Porsche and a Lotus. Eventually he got bored with them and turned his attention to other hobbies.

I think he is one of these people, that for whatever reason, always feel they have to be collecting something. I guess it could be worse, it could be women

Hi LB
sorry to hear about your chain of events, If you really like that car demand they get it sorted out PROPERLY this time, also ask for a gesture of goodwill due to their negligence, dont be too soft - perhaps a free service when its due.
If you are totally fed up and want a refund demand it, tell them you are taking the legal route - but are reasonable and will deal with the situation between yourselves initially. Also give trading standards a call.
Its clear they never looked at the rear arch.
I think all stealers are the same, fob you off like anything when there is a problem - think we are stupid, but when they want your money its yes sir, no sir
all the best, let us all know how you get on

Thanks mioba, yeah I am coming to the conclusion that all dealerships are the same. When they want you to buy they can't be helpful enough. As soon as you have handed over your money they are always too busy to call you back when you phone them and when you eventually get through to them they fob you off :(

No car is ever going to be as nice as the Mercedes, but this is much less of a compromise than the TDi was  talk about basic

Hi LB,
Do as the americans do.......
put signs in all of the windows telling the whole world how crap the dealer is and not to go there and park it right outside the dealers premises!!
Restitution will surely be quick to follow..
