I too have beat the Mercedes figures for my SL and CL, but do you really want to drive thinking about it, sure lovely to know that with sensible driving a good figure is possible.

Not really and I dont like to, but when Im doing 40k a year, I really need to given the price of fuel!

One thing worth mentioning, the OBC on my W211 was pretty bang on, when it said 35mpg it calculated to 35mpg.
Did you actually ever do brim to brim readings on the W210?

Many owners have said that theirs is very optomistic.

My e320CDi OBC is more accurate over long distances and slower speeds, I guess there are less variables in the computation.

In the summer I did 500 miles touring Norfolk and the car did this on the one tank and brim to brim returned 44mpg. The average speed achieved was circa 35mph.

Local journeys consisting of 30 miles or less tend to read 10% optomistic on the OBC, obviously the start up and cold running figures the computer can't compute with any accuracy.

E220CDI estate
I ran an 07 E280CDi Sport Estate for two years and 30k miles. The overall average on the display was only ever about 33mpg. I don't consider myself to have a heavy right foot!

My mileage is mainly A/B roads, very little motorway admittedly. Previous E270 estate averaged about 35, current E220 estate 39.

I'll wait until I do a 'tank to tank' test but looking at those last posts, the figures seem about right.....not happy at all!

What I'll also do when I get back to work is compare my regular longer journeys as I know how much it would cost me to get to a certain place and back in the W210 so Im hoping the W210 had optimistic readings and if it is a level playing field, then I'll feel a little better.

If your old 320cdi was getting 46mpg, as you say, that would be around 800 miles between fill ups.
Sometimes 50mpg you said, that is nearly 900 miles between fill ups.

I know the older straight 6 diesels can be more efficient, no dpf, etc. etc. but that sounds a lot.

40mpg would give you 700 miles and 35mpg would give you 615 miles.

40k miles a year, difference between 35 and 40mpg is £20 a week.

When you are spending £600 a month on fuel, is it really worth worrying too much about?
I know we all hate spending money on fuel, but sometimes 35mpg vs 45mpg sounds massive, in reality it's not.

Just enjoy it.

Disqualified driver
I drove to York and back on just over half a tank which would indicate 800mikes plus touring range. I hated the V6 but the economy was stellar. But posts from estate owners is they use a fair bit more fuel than saloons which was my point exactly.

Just thought I'd close this one out now that I have some more information to add.

I did my first longer regular trip today and although I managed 36.8mpg over 300 miles, it did actually cost me all but the same as it did in my E320m so from that i can only assume my W210 was giving me rather optimistic figures!
