I will post a better pic soon, but you get the idea ;)

Hi All,

Just a quick Hello and a bit about me.
I'm an ex Essex lad now living in sunny New Zealand.
I have just acquired my first Mercedes, a 2008 E550.
Being originally a BMW man, i now know what all the fuss was about.
The build quality is great, love the V8 smooth power delivery and alot of fun for a big car.

I have a couple of niggles but i will post a thread up on those.
Is there any known common issues i need to be wary of ?

Cheers.

You won't be disappointed with that V8! There were problems with defective idle gears on M273 engines from around 2004 - 2008. You might be just on the cusp of Merdedes making mods to improve. Lots of articles on here from very well informed people, it is worth reading them all. Most of my family are in Hokitika, South Island. We're due to visit towards end of year all being well. Enjoy that new car! Andy

Welcome to the forum Wessa.
Your car interests me. Looks like a UK E63 shape but I guess it has a 5.0 n/a M113 engine?
Its not a model we got in the UK.

Been here 30 years now so given up looking for the map :)

My kids live near Christchurch just near the airport.
I was originally an Auckland boy, born in Devonport and grew up in ' the bays'.

Its got a 5.5ltr in it. The earlier model had a 5.0ltr as i'm sure you'l know.
I'm sure its the same as the UK model. I've just changed a couple of things on it ;)

Yeah we've spent many an hour in the railway downing pitchers of beer! Beautiful country, would live there if we could but sadly too old and the family connection, doesn't wash anymore with the govt. I'm afraid! 2 big things I did with my car after I got it was to change the transmission fluid inc. Torque Converter and the rear diff oil. Box oil was about ready to do as back then the car had 33k on it. Transmission was a pig of a job and most say don't attempt it yourself without the expertise or proper equipment, I agree with that and you can't do it without some required tools and a fluid pump etc.. With the proper kit though and a 100% level car, its pretty straightforward and saved a fortune on garage doing it! The grey 'sludge' that came out of it was horrible but the improvement in drive was amazing and I really mean that! Rear axle was very simple, only took an hour and a half. If you get those 2 things done I'm sure you won't regret it. The V8 is a sublime engine, power when you need it and a bit of fun when you just fancy it, so on those wide open NZ roads it'll be great!
