Hi

Another stupid question I am afraid!

On my W202 how do I change the single wiper blade?

Does the arm simply fold upwards as in other 2 wiper cars?

If this sounds really stupid I apologise but I have tried to fold the arm up and at about 30 degrees from the screen it sticks and added pressure produces some horrible groaning "you are just about to break something and it will be expensive" type noises.........

Do I remove the plastic cover and unbiolt the entire arm?

Sorry to be so dumb but this is my first Merc and you guys will no doubt be well aware that they do things quite differently from lesser manufacturers.

Thanks

Jonathan

Just lift the arm up (it does make a horrible noise) and then unclip the blade.

Hi Jon,

I agree with blackC55, it really creaks as you pull it away from the screen. If you want to take the big triangular plastic bit off to grease the mechanism, fold up the smaller plastic bit at the top of the main triangle, take out the allen bolt and pull off the complete arm. The big plastic bit is held by clips going round the back, you can feel them. Warning ! before you attempt anything on the wipers, get a sheet of thin plywood and put it on the windscreen under the wiper in case it springs back. This also applies taking the main arm off after removing the allen screw, so get the plywood from the wiper spindle to the offside edge of the screen. Sorry my descriptions drag on a bit but I like to pass on knowledge. Talking about vulnerable glass, the rear screen is very exposed when the boot lid is open. I had to strip and clean the boot lock and dropped my 3/8 ratchet from the boot lock onto the rear screen. I got away with it, another use for that sheet of plywood.

Make sure that your replacement blade is a 24MB from bosch they have a special extra clip device to stop the sliding action releasing the blade, its the same price as the standard blade. If you loose the blade the arm will scratch the glass.

Great advice there guys - thank you

Very relieved that what I thought was a 'going to break something expensive' noise is just a standard noise instead!

Suppose I better get a replacement blade then!

They are not expensive. I paid about £15 for the blade complete (from Mercedes - Leicester). They used to sell just the rubber but I don't know if they still sell them separately.

Rubbers are still available, last one cost about £6/7 . Advice on lubing mechanism is well worth listening to, it could save a small fortune in the future

Just To Make U Feel Better!

I had the same problem with the single wiper about 4 yrs ago. Took it back and got one of the merc. lads to put it down as i feared bending/snapping the arm and had read about greasing the mech. and wondered if this needed doing. Took me a while to orientate the blade to slide on as well but now takes me about 35 seconds!
