When will this drivel seep into the home, then your average cleaner will elevate themselves (even more) to domestic detailers.

Spraying some Mr Muscle into your oven will become a nano level surfactant clean, your bog will get a jojoba berry overnight treatment and your kitchen floor, well we might as well claybar it after all claybars do remove bits and bobs.
Carpets will get specialist hair care related products.
All manner of ludicrously over hyped products will be formulated to clean and shine things in ever shrinking containers.
My old fashioned mother used to instruct her cleaner to use washing up liquid amongst other things and her home was clean, tidy and smelt it.
I think it already has there's shake n vac or dysons version Zorb for your carpet all do pretty much the same thing

Salt and alcohol cleans grease but you have to wash it off.

so with all these modern potions and lotions can someone suggest something to "soften" and put some life back into my hard leather seats which are showing signs of cracking. I have already cleaned them with "saddle soap" and elbow grease now I am wondering whats the best thing to treat them with. all the stuff thats out there its hard to decide which is quality product and what is just "snake oil" that wont do anything but lighten the wallet?

That’s the one. It’s superb. Ensure you buy the cleaner and conditioner, and make sure the leathervreally is clean before you apply the conditioner.

You’ll be astonished what comes off. Start at the steering wheel...

I wash my Mercedes, I then use a clay bar/mitt on the paintwork. I then use a good quality wax (in my case Dodo Juice Diamond White). If I can be bothered I Hoover the inside and treat the dash etc. with a something to make it looks and smell nice.

I wash it, clean it, valet it. I never 'detail' it. Grumpy old man rant over! Happy belated new glass half full year! :)
"Americanisms" how about "Hoover" for a starter, instead of vacuum cleaning? ha ha
