Another W164 Tailgate problem !

Hi all . So, I've recently purchased a 2009 w164 ML. One of many problems it has is the tailgate won't open or close using any of the switches. The soft shut does work and when I use the button in the drivers door it unlatches and plays the bong bong bong tune but the boot doesn't open. Also the button in the tailgate isn't lit up when the tailgate is open. Can anyone give me any pointers please ?

I've looked though everything and most don't match my symptoms. Ie the tailgate doesn't open at all or the soft doesn't work either. I'm sort of leaning towards broken wire ??

In the spare wheel well will be the motor, I can guarantee water has corroded the wires onto it.
Same thing was happening on mine.
