Further to a recent posting, I have recently had work undertaken by MB Warranty. When I picked up the car, I was surprised to learn that the work was guaranteed only up to the end of the existing warranty (in this instance 5 months) and not for a year or beyond. Do you believe that this is correct?

That is correct, it would only be guaranteed for a year if you had paid for the work or part of it, AFAIK normal consumer law.
As an example a button on my sons Playstation portable was sticking, I took it back within the year (by 1 week). The shop didn't have the exact model to change it with however did have a white one that was 99p more expensive than the previous one. I happily paid the 99p as that gave me another years warranty.
