Hi

I've not used it myself, so can't be sure of what it looks like.

I'll need to contact Fuchs about this. Do you have the batch number (should be on the can), when you bought it (order number if possible) and a sample of the oil left over that they can test?

Cheers

Tim

Hi Tim,

I've still got half the can left so will get the numbers for you tonight. Sample would be no problem.
I bought it about a year ago and it's been stored in my shed the whole time... won't have been frozen or got hot.
Transmission is running fine- I guess the filter would prevent anything nasty getting into places where it could do damage. You'd imagine the filter would be fine enough to stop particles which could interfere with the oil films in the bearings etc seeing that auto gearboxes make a mess in the ATF anyway.

I did wonder if they were tiny air bubbles as I gave it a damned good shaking before using seeing as I've had it a year but I'm not sure.

Will post on here this evening.

Hi

If you gave the can a shake, they could well be air bubbles. If you have a look at it again tonight, without shaking it again, hopefully the flecks will have disappeared. If not, send me a sample and I'll send it on to Fuchs.

Cheers

Correct oil for automatic Gearbox - 722.9 - NAG2-FE+ ?

Hi,

I have a 2011 E Class W212 with the 7 speed auto gearbox. It has stop/start and so has the 722.9 - NAG2-FE+ gearbox (I believe).
I am planning to change the gearbox oil in the near future.
There seems to be 2 oil specifications for the 722.9 gearbox.
I understand that the 236.14 spec oil was correct for the early versions of the 7G NAG2 gearbox but there seems to be a 236.15 spec oil for the NAG2-FE+ gearbox.
I think the 236.15 oil is a blue colour and not miscible with the 236.14 spec.

Do you know which spec oil I should use?

Thanks,
Steve

Here's an off the wall one for you....

I need about 5 litres of hydraulic fluid for the hydraulic drive in a boat. The boat is a Bounty Boats 27 Sedan built back in the 80s and I believe (but can't be sure because the boat is on the French Mediterranean coast) uses a Denison hydraulic pump. Its powered by a Perkins 4108 engine.

The reason I need it is to replace oil lost from a leak - the old fluid looks like Dexron II but its hard to be sure!

Any thoughts what to use and can you please provide a price?

Hi Steve

My data lists it as being for up to production number 2834527, it needs the 236.14 fluid, for boxes after that, it needs the 236.15.

236.14 - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68895-fuchs-titan-atf-4134-mercedes-mb-23614.aspx
236.15 - http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-77986-fuchs-titan-atf-7134-fe-low-viscosity-automatic-gear-oil-atf.aspx

I have no way of telling which on that you have other than the production number.

Cheers

Hi

I don't have any information listed for that, but I was thinking of a Dexron II fluid straight away, it's what most boats need when it comes to hydraulic oil.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for that.
The production code of the gearbox in my car is 3467420 so the 236.15 spec is the correct oil.

Do you think Opieoils will be stocking that in 1 or 5 litre cans so that I buy 8 or 9 litres for an oil change?

Thanks again,
Steve

Hi Steve

If they start producing it in smaller sizes, we'll stock it, but at the moment it's only in 20L and 205L.

Regards

Tim

I have a A250 May2017 1991cc . A litre of oil was included in the tool kit. It is marked 229.5 with no SAE style coding. The book just specifies 229.5 without saying SAE code. The online equivalence table list has four columns 0W30, 0W40, 5W30, 5W40 without saying which is best for my car. I have about 3 litres of GALP FORMULA ENERGY 5W40 left over from my old car which is on the list and on the basis that there is not a million miles of difference between an 0W30 and a 5W40 was going to use that when topping up is needed . Do you have a view, comment or advice ?

Hi

You need an engine oil that meets the Mercedes 229.1, 229.3, 229.31, 229.5 or 229.51 specification, but if it has a diesel particulate filter, you need to use one of the 229.31 or 229.51 oils.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-716-mercedes-engine-oil.aspx

If it doesn't burn much oil, any of the oils that meet those specs are fine, but if it does burn oil, go for one of the 5w-40s.

This is ideal for the gearbox.

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-68895-fuchs-titan-atf-4134-mercedes-mb-23614.aspx

And this for the diff.

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-982-fuchs-titan-sintopoid-fe-sae-75w-85-fully-synthetic-gear-oil.aspx

You need 8.5L of engine oil, 9L is the full capacity of the gearbox (so probably 6-7L for a change) and 1.1-1.6L for the diff.

Cheers

Tim

As oilman says for the ATF and the diff , they are both what I use . For the engine checkout eBay , you can get 20L of 229.51 MB oil for £53 delivered , which is over 2 oil changes , a lot of forum members use this one

Hi,

My 2011 W204 C Class C220 CDI has a manual gearbox.

I am planning to change the gearbox oil and would like your advice on the spec of the oil to use.
It is a 6 speed and the gearbox model is 711 653.

Any advice would be great.

Have a look at www.opieoils website , you can put your reg number in to tell you what oil recommendations there are . I don't know anything about manuals I'm afraid

Hi Wighty,

Thanks for that.
I did try the www.opieoils website.
I entered my model, engine, etc. and it seemed to work well to highlight options for the engine oil but not for the gearbox oil. Maybe I am using it incorrectly though.

I only have the Irish reg number to hand -- I will have to look up the previous UK reg when I get home.

Just give your local MB dealer a ring and find out
