Hi All
I bought my 2000 mercedes with LPG conversion (it is registered as LPG also on the registration document) , and the rear CATS were not present.

It has passed 3 years of MOT's since I've had it, being presented on LPG to the MOT station each year.
This year (ie - today) I took it to a different station, presented on LPG, but was told it is automatic fail as the rear CATS were missing. Can anyone confirm if this is 100% correct to fail an LPG presented car in this way>? "New Rules" - mention of which I cannot find anywhere.

(it certainly passes the emissions test when tested as LPG)

Many thanks in advance.

Gaz

Missing Cats is a Fail
Could be your original garage was too easy.
Or the New Station you used today is playing by the rules.

Thank you for the reply - I just phoned the DVSA and spoke to someone who agreed it should not be a fail if registered as LPG and presented on LPG - So the plot thickens - I am waiting for something in writing to confirm (unless the person answering the email has a different opinion to the call handler).

Even if it's registered LPG , does it still start up on petrol until it's warm to switch over to lpg ? In which case it would need the cats for the start up cycle ?

It can start on LPG, but in practice it normally starts on petrol for 1 minute and then switches to LPG (long before a Catalytic converter would be heated up to working temperature anyway) -

Just as a side thought - checking the VIN decoder for my vehicle - It was ordered in Kuwait in 1999 - I wonder if there was an option to not have rear cats? eg - Did it ever have them? (clutches at straws!)

There's an option for no cats (code 918 from memory) but not front cats only as far as I'm aware.

This has now been solved. I have it in writing from the DVSA that a vehicle presented for an Mot on LPG does not require CATs..
