Yamaha were making proper bikes back then...

I expect in 20 years that will still be much the same, I wonder what the 900 tracer will be doing? They just replaced the tracer with a new bike. The old one was supposed to be close to perfection, and the new one's an improvement.... but are they like the modern world, build to last 5 years or ?

I guess the old british stuff proves they don't make em like that anymore...

Love of my life - Z1000 engined Harris Magnum 2 had it since 1980 and nothing is now original except the number plate.

is this really std? the front end looks more modern? And the swinging arm looks really fragile... Never ridden a harris, so can't say. But the gist these days is half a bike's ability is in a magic swinging arm that can safely hold the empire state building dead still in some planes and get flex and wobble in lots of others

It is 0% standard, that's the whole idea with owning a Special.

In 1980 a Harris Magnum II was state of the art. The Magnum and Magnum I were frames built for endurance racing with that "fragile looking" Swinging arm. Also in April 1980; Bike Magazine had one on the cover and I decided then I was going to have one ! In May 1980 I bought a Z1-R and used the same in 1995 as a donor bike for a new Magnum II built for me. Harris had to find the jigs in their loft.

If I want to ride modern I ride my Ducati Monster, If I want to go in comfort I drive my GLC

"Headlamps must comply with all other requirements of the test and headlamp aim."

Seems far more logical to me. Now they will pass, as long as the beam pattern is correct.

yes but with motorbikes having short wheel bases, tending to have more suspension dive than cars under braking, maybe lifting the front under acceleration and often with the headlight at the eyeline of a car driver, the shaking wobbling and already dazzling beam of a bike now being allowed to be an illegal brighter one and pass the MOT seems strange?

Especially as this ONLY passes the MOT it does not legalise the fitment of illegal bulbs, nor suddenly make you insurance valid again.... so all in all a bit of muddled silliness that will likely upset people in cars, and encourage illegal use of lights where bikers then come horribly unstuck when there's an accident and the insurance company wants a get of jail free card...

Oh, I just worked out why we let them pass the MOT !!!

That was in Spain in 2010, can’t remember exactly where, but we had got the ferry to Bilbao and rode down to Moraira on the Costa Blanca. That’s my wife with the bike.

It’s doing really well, nearly 1,600 miles on it now as I was out Thursday, Saturday and Sunday :D
Really getting the hang of it now and it rides much better than the 1200. So easy to pick lines and strings bends together. I was out with a RC8 on Saturday and he couldn’t get away… ;)
I’ve turned the hill start assist off as that caused me a few stalls on steep junctions. I might try it again and see if it’s me or software that’s not releasing the brakes

nice, what's the power curve like. Lively, with good bottom end ?
u never had the old gutless LC? made the air cooled ones look like a tractor.... got rid of mine kept the old one

can u turn off the gear assist.... gives me a sore foot on BMs,

on the 1200 tiger in the menus it has on or off, oddly it worked well either way, where on any BM I tried, I would remove it

I can’t tell when it switches cams, it just pulls all the way to 9k, although I almost always change up well before then.
Not looked to turn off the gear assist as I’ve found it works well. I generally use the clutch 1-2 and 2-1 but the rest of the time it’s just up or down on the lever and the revs get matched.

I guess one needs to ride it to believe the VVT can't be felt.... but its what everyone says, does it feel much better round 3 to 5 k rpm ? my LC had nothing there at all....

should have known, the demo I rode, like most BM dealerships are specially chipped go faster ones. Whilst it was horrid down the bottom, I was swayed by the top end lunacy and all the toys, even though mechanically it was not that refined. When I got mine just like the early 2013 first ever wet multiplate clutch Boxers, mine had a penchant for letting out the clutch whilst you have the lever against the bars !!! not bad for a 2017 bike as they were supposed to have fixed them all in 2014 and twice it wouldn't crank and just turned on the heated grips instead.... They had it back after a major fight, insisting there was nothing wrong and my issues "where just design features"

BM using baby gauge wires to the starter has been going on for years... the K1300 had a retrofit bigger battery to starter wiring loom, as once you got the bike hot, the wires heat up enough the resistance increases and it stops the starter working

Lease it and don't worry is the way forward today

I did a search but, didn't find any results so please delete if its already been done and pass me the link.

So do any fellow members also ride motorcycles and what do you like/dis-like about it?

This is my current bike, owned for about 4-5 years now and follows my car mantra, purchased privately, low owners, full service history, plus every invoice for all parts and works, all original parts included. 7,500 miles. Only added R&G crash bungs, radiator guards, clear stomp grip and a powerbronze hugger

Nothing to dislike as it does everything so well. You can ride it like an automatic as it pulls cleanly from 1,500rpm and the motor is surprisingly torquey. The riding position is comfortable and doesn't put unnecessary strain on the wrists, so can be ridden for long periods without making your eyeballs bleed. I like the integrated indicators, keeps everything nice and clean but, also easy for other motorists to spot. Should you wish to take it to a track (which I have not), don't doubt, it excels as per its reputation. Mind blowing competent machine.

Before that, I had a Kawasaki ZX6R J1 for about 15 years, which I rode through most winters and snow just for fun! Likes - big, practical, Kawasaki noise. Dis likes - carb heaters didn't do anything, always egged me on.

Started off on 125lc and finished on a CBR1000RR...which was shown the door 10yrs ago.
Bikes cannot be enjoyed anymore with all the cameras/helicopter/unmarked police bikes (i live near Matlock) and car drivers with cameras recording in their vehicles any enthusiastic rider will either lose their licence or be in prison and if i want to potter round at the speed limit then i'd never use a bike
