Hello all,

I have a 2001 W208 CLK230, I have recently put on some 18" Brabus Mono IV replica wheels but now the car looks very high and I am thinking about lowering it.

Anyone know any decent set of springs for this model any details of where and how much would really help.

Am i likely to face any problems with 18 X 8.5 wheels when lowered?

thanks all

Regards
Amo

Why not a Bilstein B12 kit?

Hello,

Have a look in this and other forums for peoples views on the Bilstein B12 kit.

I'm please and so are others.

Good luck and keep us posted.

If you do lower it beware of the sump/oil pan, it is die cast on some models and will splinter if you touch a speed bump with it. This I know from experience.

That said it can (if not over done) improve the looks.

Thanks for the warning Wireman, I have had a very low Mk2 golf before so i am aware of the speed bumps and oil sumps.

Any recommendation on which springs to go for? I was thinking eibach or H&R but i have seen some reviews that lowering is not even at front and back.

Thanks for your suggestion too Ray, i will check out Bilstein B12

Found Pi springs which lower the car by 45mm all around for £115, does anyone know if there are any problems when ride is lowered by 45mm all around?

Many thanks

Too low, I think

If you live near an Autobahn in Germany that might work - their roads used to be very smooth. Now I think that many German roads might cause grief.

If you live in UK or France, think again.

That's my 2 cents worth.

Thanks Ray,

I am in UK, I am not too bothered about speedbumps only wanted to know if i could face and scrubbage on 4 down and full lock on steering?

Thing is low profile tyres on 18" shows a big gap in front and rear arches which i am keen to fill up by lowering the car a little.

Might go for Eibach springs, they only lower car by 35mm.

Ring a man called John at road runner motorsport on 01159781173 or http://www.roadrunnermotorsport.co.uk/index.asp I have just bought a set of Eibachs off him this week, this guy really knows his stuff and I have dealt with hime before, and is very honest. he will take the whole spec of the car for weight and balance purposes down to the most minor point, and will do you a deal too on price. He sorted me out this week on my W124.

If you're lowering the car 35 or 45 mm you should replace the shocks as well. They're designed to work with a specific spring rate & length and when you change both those parameters they won't work effectively and may bottom out

If you have to lower it then a decent kit, like the Bilstein one, that combines matched springs & shocks is a very good idea

Thanks again guys, I have a friend who lowered his CLK200 by 35mm on eibach springs, he also has AMG front bumber but even then its not so bad with 4 down in car.

Might go for Eibach afterall as advised by Gazzaj. The guy he recomended does these springs for £150 for 35mm lowering springs and advised that this amount of lowering shouldnt cause any problems.

Now i am out to look for good mechanic to fit them.

thanks all

if you just want to lower, then H&R springs are they way to go, you wont loose ride comfort, but will lower and handle better.

Eibach / HR springs

Tried both Eibach and HR. IMHO can recommend both. I currently have eibach -35mm on my C124 E320 Coupe and it rides fine with no bottoming out even at full load.I bought Eibach as it was meant to be the best and designed to be used with standard dampers?RegardsE320C

I had great service from roadrunner and the car looks great now its done and handles unbelievably well too, and also haven't lost any ride comfort. Its got Eibach street Pro springs with Bilstein Gas shocks.

Thanks guys for all your input. I think its best to stick to tried and tested Eibach and go to sensible 35mm all around and hope for the best.

Cheers once again
