Anyone driven a 2.9TD E class.

I have been looking here in USSR for a few months now for an E300td without success. People here don’t seem to like diesels so there are only about 3 or 4 % of MBs that are diesel. This week I have come across a 1997 2.9TD with 188,000kms on the clock, it came from Germany 3 weeks ago & seems a very clean & rust free car. Looking on the German websites the 2.9TD only produces 95kw,& on paper seems to be a lot less powerful than the 300td, listed at130kw. I was unable to test drive the car at time of viewing it & have never driven a 2.9td. Has anyone on the forum driven a 2.9td, & if so are they very slow & sluggish as the 95kw doesn’t seem a lot for such a big car. I believe these engines were never fitted in the E class in UK, but were fitted in the Sprinter vans & supposedly fairly bullet proof. If anyone has any experience of these 2.9s I would like to hear what you think of them & if they are hopelessly underpowered then I will continue looking for a 300td .
