Looks like a gearbox problem , drive as little as possible to get home .
Maybe turn it off and see if it clears it ?

Some good info on the same fault on the below thread.

With luck it is just low battery voltage due to the cold weather and lack of use. I’d get a battery conditioner on it and see how it goes.

Fortunately it's not our car but my sons, not really sure why he thinks I might know what the issue is. He said it made a weird noise when he tried to start it. So I'll suggest he charges the battery first and see if that solves the issue. Thank goodness they have 2 cars or they'd be really stuck!

on the 221 its a £1k bill to replace the deliberately engineered to stop counter in the ISM gear selector

if really unlucky it will go in park in the middle of the road when the car comes to a rest and then its a rear wheel toe job to a garage and silly money reapir - the message is often best understood as park me on a ramp so they can replace the ISM - do not stop for tea / petrol and most certainly do not turn it off

last guy on another forum that thought he knew best got stuck in the middle of an intersection in pitch black conditions, in the rain and couldn't do anything - then the police turned up and got upset as well

Well he seems to think it's sorted, he charged the battery and it's working, although as the car is 8yrs old it probably needs a new one.

I had that same message yesterday when the car failed to start first time (it just turned over once and cut out) Turned off and restarted and never saw message again. I am having battery issues (as discussed) which hopefully will be resolved by a new battery arriving today
