Anyone selling a om642 engine also do they differ depending on bhp

Hi all my car needa a new engine knocking and smoking terribly and metal fillings in oil filter, quiet a few mercedes have the same engine eg 350 cdi 320 cdi 300cdi 280cdi but the bhp is different is that only due to ecu or is the internals in the engine different they all have the same code om642

same basic engine but ECU's are different. Replace a like with like I would say.

Sorry to hear about the engine
Why has this engine blown has it done lots of miles or just not been oil changed
The vid you posted sounded like a camshaft rattle
I had a simlar sound on a vw pdi when the cam bucket wore through
the metal in the engine is not good as it will need a strip to clean it out
With the vw I changed the camshaft and buckets and oil and all was well I did change the oil numerous times as I also had evidence of metal which hopefully is collected in the filter but I caught our fault early
the car ran for another 3 years and then sold still all well
