'Car of this calibre' ... It's a 17 year old car ! Fair enough if you'd bought it new , but not 17 years down the line.

So you swear it was all in full working order when you bought it , how have you been ripped off then ?

I'm saying that it appears your elevator doesn't go to the top floor.

So now you're insulting me as well?

It was in full working order when I bought it yes. But the guy who sold it to me must have known that this car was going to have all these major things go wrong with it imminently surely? After all he was a mechanic and a car dealership owner!!! Don't tell me he didn't evaluate this car and at least have some knowledge of the imminent faults that were about to appear???

All H is saying is stuff happens.

If cylinder 4 was working when you bought it, then it is unlikely the previous owner had covered it up...ask yourself how he could possibly have done that.

Well apparently it wasn't Bosch parts he used for a start which is commonplace for MB ! And someone be it the owner of the seller had tied cable ties around the heater blower rather than replace it and this was verified to me by a MB garage!!! Now if that's not a dodgy/borderline practise than I don't know what is!!!

All the things you've described as wrong with it aren't things that stand out as being easy to know that they are about to happen unless he was married to Mystic Meg ?

I'm not insulting you , you are just coming across as someone who has had enough and maybe saying irrational things that you might not have thought through fully ...

You said my "elevator didn't go to the top floor", basically meaning I am retarded.

There is no need to insult me.

If these faults are not things that stand out as being easy to "predict" then how would anyone I sold the car to be able to prove that I knew otherwise either?

They'll test drive it and feel a missfire?

Dont listen to us, advertise it for £1495 and good luck, just let us know when its sold, dont take a penny less.

I'm off to bed. I don't want to create bad feeling with anyone or stir up any trouble. If anyone wants to call me and discuss insults they have traded with me they can call me tomorrow morning and we can talk it out.

Goodnight. I will post tomorrow morning.

Would you pay £1500 for it?

Is this the same car from the 'Will this massive rear end dent have devalued my car at all?' thread?

If so, how much did you spend getting that sorted?

I think the mis-achievement here for you Callumco is that you have basically shown yourself to considerably bend your moral compass and trustworthiness when under duress (in a broad sense). I believe most people would call that somewhat hypocrite. And - don't get me wrong - I understand the frustration and I am sure that some of your comments were just 'thinking out loud' etc... but it really does leave the impression you are willing to do what ever it takes (even if it means any buyer of your car basically gets a crappy deal...) to get what you believe is your wish.

The true reality is that you are stuck with an unsalable car and that you had bad luck. You made some unfortunate decisions with this car, and are now looking for a way to pass them on to a potential buyer. Not very nice. I am not saying you are a shifty, dodgy person, but in this particular instance it is hard not to walk away with at the very least a bad taste in ones mouth in regards to how you go about trying to sell this car...

Hi Callum, It is easy to understand your frustration with the situation, but unfortunately a 2nd hand car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it irrespective of what you paid for it, what you have spent on it and what your current financial situation is.

Compare it with the ones that are for sale on Autotrader and the sad fact is that it will be difficult to sell at all. As a private sale and if everything was working and no dent in the boot you would do well to get anything over ~£1000. As it is it is unlikely that there is any market except for spares / scrap.

As regards not describing the faults in your advert, apart from any moral questions, the point is that that will just anoy people coming to see it as the dent in the boot is immediately obvious and as soon as you drive it so is any misfire. Other than a rare or desirable car, most people just walk away from a misdescribed car as it is not what they wanted anyway.

Good luck, but I think you should take the offer from lbwnick, its probably the best you will get unfortunately. You will just have to accept this as a "life" lesson and remember not to mess with old luxury cars unless you can afford to run them and take a loss on sale!
