Dreaming of a CL55k - one day maybe....
Just a query,

Assuming a scrap dealer will give you £100 - £200, why won't you accept a penny less than £1395???

Surely you are better asking for some bids on it - find out what people want to pay, not what you want?

I have a written off ML that is great for parts. I want £1500 for it - however no-one wants to pay that, so I'm going to have to reconsider....

Calumcco, suggest you use something like Cartakeback.com to get an idea of what the scrap value of your car is as a start.

You should also contact specialist breakers such as Dronsfields and W140 as they have a more accurate idea of the potential parts value and may offer a bit more.

Otherwise, as stated above it is pointless you saying you won't except less than a particular amount; at the end of the day if you get £50 more than its scrap value at least you have £50 more in your pocket!

What you have said in your post is most likely to put people off unfortunately.

Best of luck.

Had a look here in PL at some W140's... a good one still fetches north of 4K...

Found this gem:

Gotta say, if I had some spare cash lying around... a car like this... very tempting. You can say what you want about the W140 but it certainly is one imposing and impressive hunk of auto...

I have received some offers but they are not very much to be honest. I am in a right mess here.

Just get rid of it! Accept a couple of hundred quid for it, and move on and forget about it. In 2 years you wont be wishing you'd kept it for another 6 months trying to sell it for a lousy few hundred more... your first loss is your best loss...

Another adage, which is true in a lot of cases, "Your first offer is probably the best offer"

Just think, Mic has sold his 1998 140 for scrap as it rusted badly, mine will have little value soon.

£80k new? for the entry level s class? i doubt it very much, im afraid, especially as it was a run-out model in 1998! £60k possibly, but ive seen 220 s class advertised as being £48k new!

What is entry level? Does it mean the lowest engine size?
Does run out model mean it was the last made?

the 280 was the smallest engine and wthout hitting the options list was the least well specced of the S sclass cars of that era. you could hardly call them basic!

I have just been quoted a derisory sum of £200 for my car !!!

I mean my sister's A160 which was basically dead as a dodo got her £250 so how the hell can a fully working W140 go for the same price!!!!!!!!!!

Don't take the p***

A160 = cheap to run/insure/maintain (by MB standards)
S280 = MUCH more expensive to run/maintain/repair/insure

being sensible, if they were cheap to repair and maintain, you would get it fixed rather than try to sell it on!
