Went to fill up at Sainsbury's in Crawley today only to find that most pumps have yellow tube guns delivery nozzles, PLUS the price was £1.20.9 a litre and 2p a litre dearer than Asda in Brighton.

My 2002 E320 has a black sticker on fuel door that just plainly say's DIESEL with EN 590 underneath, so what grade of diesel would this be ?

Needless to say I won't be filling up at Sainsbury's anymore, and will wait till weekend when in Brighton again.

City diesel is low sulphur fuel designed to give lower emissions, hence for city commuters.

Thank AMGEED

So is there any advantage to my using it, or should i just stick with ordinary?

Stick with the ordinary Pinball. Unless you want to save the planet and spend an extra 2p a litre.

Many thanks for that helpful reply AMGeed - I really do appreciate it, being totally ignorant about the differences.

When California brought in emissions control for ships we had to change over main engine, boiler and generators to ultra low sulphur gas oil 200 miles off shore. ( main engine used 90 tonnes a day).
Problem was the sulphur was a lubricant in fuel pumps and some ships had engine failures so ultra low sulphur can be a problem.

Sulphur content is one of the differences between 229.5 and 229.51 oils as well. Its why 229.51 uses a different additive package.

I often use Sainsbury's City diesel as I pass one of their filling stations on the way to and from the motorway, and I seem to get the best MPG from it. I've tried all the fancy diesels, including Shell V-Power and Costco's super dupa diesel, and I can't tell any difference.
