I would like to get my Gearbox oil changed and have a few questions....

1. What needs to be replaced / changed as well ? ie any filters need renewing etc

2. Can any garage do this ? Ie I use a local garage currently who are very good but do I need to go to say, a MB independent - ie is this too complicated for a local repair shop ?

3. Once it is all said and done, does it make a difference and how much should it cost ?

Thanks in advance !!

Any good garage could do it. cleanliness is the order of the day.

They will need a MB dip stick.

MB indies charge around £170

New filter needed plus fluid and thats MB special

Most say changes are much better when done

More like £70 at an indy in my experience. W202's auto box has it's own dipstick.

Changed my oil and filter last year, Oil £8.45 per litre (7 Litres) new sump gasket and filter £13.17 + postage + vat. All from Mercedes Oxford. Made world of difference, smoother changes and no loss of drive (due to low oil level). Not a difficult DIY job and much cheaper than M/B or Indie.

Had mine done the other week at MB Tech. The cost was £170 which included a new gear box connector which was found to be leaking. This cost is very reasonable and as previous post, the garage has to be clean. A good Indy is the way! I dread to think what a main MB dealer would have charged.

He would have charged the happy bunny over £100 more
