Having sold my 190E (and bought a BMW - hangs head in shame) it seems dishonest to keep appearing here. Been fun over the last year or so. Keep up the good work, boys and girls.
Well what a shame, trading in your (as good as new) Mercedes for a (will be knackered one day) BMW.
Interesting ownership profiles of BMW (the honest truth).
BMW driver:
1st owner: Company bought vehicle
2nd owner: Company bought vehicle driver (for his wife)
3rd owner: Most people looking for a reliable fun to drive car
4th owner: More the same, only less money
5th owner: Somebody looking to customise their Beemer with 18" alloys, large ICE system, and tin foil wrapped around their exhaust pipe!
Mercedes driver:
1 owner from new, with full Mercedes service history.
I've bought a '92 316i Touring. I needed more carrying capacity and less fuel consmption than the 190E, and I was getting sick of the shower of rust fllakes every time I closed the driver's door on the Merc.
The BM appealed through having a galvanised body and impressive overall condition. Also I got £500 knocked offwhen the dealer diagnosed the groaning power steering as a knackerd rack. I thought it needed the fluid changing. Turns out I was right!
I may live to regret the purchase. The most unreliable car I ever owned was a BMW. But I'm not convinced that the newer Mercs are as impressive as the older ones.
I'm saving up for a 107 SL. I owned one as a daily driver (when I had money) and although it was very rusty, I loved the car.
Live long and prosper and divent drop your dottle on the proggie mat.
