Before I hassle the dealership. And as I dont have my 'terms and conditions' to hand...

Does anyone recall what the spec is on the Approved used merc conditions when it comes to tread depth of tyres?

As discussed in a previous thread about traction control, I've just checked my tyres, and one of the four is on the wear depth indicators. Slightly odd that its one out of four and not a pair. Also noticed that its a different (although good) brand.

Second question will be what are the tollerances for miss matched tread depth? Its opposite side is in good condition, but not brand new. Should I ask for the pair to be swapped at once? Meet them half way? Or is it not such a risk?

I know from the 4x4 world that mis-matching tread depth can be a no-no, but wonder what the opinion is on C-class coupe rear wheels?

from memory the rule was 4mm depth. Anyting less and the must replace the tyre as part of the pdi.
As far as different makes and depths on an axle, I don't see it being a major issue unless you're a lunatic, especially with ESP keeping an eye on you.
That said I too try to keep an axle matched and normally keep the whole car matched.

The dealer has quoted the PDI sheet at me, as being 4mm. So they arent sounding kean to swap. However, they have agreed to have the local MB dealership do a quick check to make sure nothing is causing it to wear quicker than the other side. Alignment, tracking, tyre compound, etc were all quoted as possible causes.

See what happens next.

If the tyre is a different make its unlikely to have been replaced at the same time as the other tyre, it was probably replaced prematurely due to a puncture or kerbing. Therefore there is probably nothing wrong with the car or tracking etc as the tyre is not wearing prematurely, its simply done more miles than the other tyre.

When I bought my car 2 of the tyres had uneven wear on them, so I replaced with new tyres on and since then they've warn fine so I can only presume the other tyres wore unevenly before someone retracked the car and its saved me the bother of having to have that done.
