Sorry if this is common knowledge or has been mentioned before, but the DVLA's website allows you to check the tax status of a vehicle just by its make and reg. So if you can remember the registrations of your old motors, you can see if they're still on the road. :) If it's untaxed, it tells you the date it ran out, so you can get a good approximation of when it went to the big scrapyard in the sky...

My 190 is still going....

Yes and declared SORN every year even though they may not have been taxed for years. They are off road and out of sight and the SORN declaration it to ensure no unexpected "FINES" from the "the computer is always right" DVLA. I have experienced their "faulty" computerby not receiving SORN reminders.

Other scrapped cars are just that and I know they are bean tins.

Sadly my 1972 beloved vw camper seems to have bit the dust in 2000, which is a shame as it had a great engine in 1992!

SAAB Lifespans

This is a good game!

I had 3 SAABs in the period 1972, 1983. From the data on this website, their life expectancy was:
SAAB 95 (V4 Estate) - 13 years
SAAB 99L (1850 cc 2 door saloon) - 12 years
SAAB 99 EMS (2L hatchback) - 14 years.

These were all reasonably expensive cars in their day, and much was made of the SAAB anti rust treatment which had to be checked and repaired/reapplied every 2 years.

None of them suffered particularly hard use in my hands, and did not do mileages in excess of 10,000 per year. Yet they all died young! :(:(:(

Awesome game:

My old 1982 stretched Granada is still on the road, as is my 190d that had 400,000 miles on the clock. However, the Renault 5 Monaco, 280se and Ford Granada diesel are long gone. Shame.

I don't think I am not old enough to play:(

I have checked my H reg Golf GTI, Its still alive and kickin.

That means the new owner is looking after it and not scrapped it yet.

Mind you he only had it for 2 years and it was in immaculate condition when I sold it to him.

My first car, a 1963 Ford Anglia, is no longer around. There's a surprise.

Goodness me

The second car I ever owned was a 1948 Rover 75. It was in good nick when I sold it in 1965 (could not afford the petrol @ 4/11p per gallon)!

I followed it up 4 years later and it was being used as a chicken coup in a farmyard 40 miles from where I sold it. I assumed it would then just drift off into oblivion.

Imagine my surprise when I looked it up, just out of interest, on the DVLC site - someone must have rescued it and it is currently on the road again.

1948 Rover 75, black (they mostly were after WW2) ASN 625.

2017 '17' Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCi ST Line X 180 (sorry)
my first merc was last taxed in 2008! not bad considering it was smacked up the rear by a 42 tonne truck and pushed into the back of a peugeot van causing over 8k worth (insurance) damage and was written off in 2004! my 1st car showed no record after 2001! not bad for a 1981 metro though!
