I do not know what year your car is, your lamp is it an ASR lamp on its own or is it combined with the BAS if you have it.

It might be one, or more, of the road wheels revolving out of sync with the others due to uneven tyre wear .....or one of the tyre pressures very low which could be causing the ASR system to disable?.....

This is the nice thing with a forum, you get a lot of very sensible answers like this one, he has a lot of good points there.

Had a similar experience sunday whilst driving home on the motorway. top down, cruise set to 70mph (yes really !) and all of a sudden cruise turned off as the ASR lit up. Drove a couple of junctions further to be nearer home just in case and then switched off and on and no more problems - well, so far.... Tyres all okay so will have to see what develops. Changed a brake light bulb the day before..

Thanks for the idea's, the only thing is that i now realise, it happens after 5 mins of engine running, even when the car has been stationary from start up????

There might be a clue in davidsl500 post.......check your brake lights are both working!....Could be that they are linked in to the ASR system and an 'automatic system check', after starting the engine, is picking up a blown brake bulb...(or defective brake light switch).

This could be total rubbish but at least it's worth a look ;) .
