Hi all still new to this. I am look to change the transmission fluid and fillter on my 98 E300 w210. Is Dexton II or Dextron III suitable? My auto box has the S/W switch. How much fluid do i need?

If its the 722.6 box, you'll need about 8 litres, you should buy it from the Mercedes dealer, its about £7-£8 a litre if I remember correctly. You'll also need a gearbox filter and a pan gasket as well. You will need a gearbox dipstick, the dealer may sell it to you. If you can't get hold of one, you'll need somebody to dip it.

I suggest you follow this thread, I did it a few months back:

The only other thing to add would be a new blanking cap for the dipstick tube.

The simplest way to find out would be to phone your local Mercedes dealer, ask to speak to the parts department, give them the VIN number, and they'll tell you exactly which parts you need.

Don't be tempted to get anything other than MB fluid, although its very likely just rebranded fluid I've never seen anybody post that knows for certain what it is.

I believe the gearbox number is stamped on the bell housing somewhere, although I'm not certain.
