My good pal changes cars frequently as he luckily can. Hes had some nice cars over the past few years.

Hes just got a BMW f30 to replace a A6 SLine and the issues hes had with the A6 in a few short months i just think they seem a bit overated. Lovely looking car, but fuel sender packed up and DMF suspect defective so hes selling. Ive heard many things about Audi from others that all seem to own Kia's now?

Same friend had 2 Jag XF's last year, the second was the smaller engine for economy but developed issues.

Makes me think to stick with car ive got for as long as possible and seems to be the newer the car, the weaker mechanically and may as well go buy next car from the alliance (Nissan/Renault)

I ve had 2 Audis, one from new.
The one from new was an S3 which had endless issues with the exhaust rattling if you drove on a wet road (fine until you went through a puddle then rattled more than a babies pram for the next few miles then would go quiet again till the next puddle).
The A8 was totally reliable aside from a decided liking to front suspension arms. They seemed to need replacing pretty much every other service (all 8 of them!).

By comparison my MBs have all been very good. Only thev129 has needed serious cash spending but that's partly due to previous owners neglect of several things plus it's age (26 years old).

The glow underneath my A6 S line black edition could be seen from the moon

I had a 2006 A6 Quattro 3.2 FSI from new and it never missed a beat for the six Years I owned it when sold in 2012.

I've owned my S5 for nearly 18 months and so far it has been faultless. Performance and economy in a great package, just wish it had a bit more character like my SL.

After four Audis on a Company lease through my brother in law's business, 2 Q7s and 2 A6 Avants, my sister got fed up with so many small niggles which needed dealer attention that she switched to Mercedes and bought a GLC last summer.

He had a tfsi A5 last year..... had engine rebuild under warranty as piston rings/liners worn using 1litre oil per 300 or so miles

We have an A6 which has needed rear springs and that's it in 4 years (so far). My S8 is coming up to a year of ownership and so far nothing drastic apart from a common PAS pipe fault and some disc shields corroding although it is 11 years old. My W210 needed a lot more doing and eventually got scrapped but you could argue it was 17 years old!

@coventryslk were Audi Coventry not helpful?

Reading all this is very demoralising really. Brand new, supposedly quality cars having fairly serious issues. My C280 bought at 8 years old and 62k miles and still with me now. Never had a battery and the only replacements other than service items have been brake light switch, bottom ball joints and steering damper (x3 for some reason !). I'd be utterly distraught if I'd bought a new car and suffered some of the problems mentioned. Having said that, I've had new cars from "lesser" brands with lots of issues. All rather depressing really. Thank goodness my Mercs have mostly been very good.

Most reliable new car I've ever had was a Fiat Punto. Over 30k miles and absolutely no problems (and it was driven HARD)....

I have never really understood the Audi phenomenon to be honest; to me it is just a VW for Mercedes money: And a Mercedes it isnt

Audi's were known in the 70's as a poor man's Mercedes, not sure if VW had bought them by then?

It all seems to be the luck of the draw with almost any car old or new. My mate has an Audi TT mk 1. The build is first rate but unfortunately he has problems with the DSG auto box, with only 60k odd miles on the clock. That box seems to be a major weak point with VAG cars. Compare that with the general superb reliability of Mercedes autoboxes.

I think you mean Mercedes torque converter autoboxes?
I understand that A and B class models do not have torque converter boxes .

Early autos were troublesome but much improved since 2012.

Every manufacturer has its common faults on certain models. Audi has had DSG issues, AMG had their head bolt issue and Valeo issue etc etc. Some good research before buying any car is advisable. Forums are a wealth of information

Audi really did pull off the greatest brand engineering there's been, making people think their fwd shitter was better than other fwd shutters.
