Replaced my Audio 10 cd player with somthing a little more updated, and intend to sell on the Audio 10. From other posts I guess I am going to have to get the code from the dealership, but will the code work on a car other than the original one.
Taken from a W203 estate C220 cdi, in the UK. Is this unit coded?

thanks

Hi,
I am looking for an original cd player for my W210 2001 and I was wondering about the coding issue too. I think your cd player might fit on mine (more experienced members might correct me here)
If coding is not an issue, please send me a pm for the price.
Cheers,
Smyrnian

Most radio's after 2000 are coded once only from new, CD changers do not have a code,,hope this helps

Hi Malcolm,
cheers for the reply, sorry to sound thick but does this mean toad's cd player (or any other post 2000 merc cd player) coded only to his car and it won't work anywhere else?

Seen codes being done on Ebay, and wondered if that is the way to go if Merc dont give me a code. But as Smyrnian says, will it only work in the orig car?

i don't think the 203 audio 10 will fit the 210

as they have different fascias and means of fitting. As for the code, I think they they will work in other makes of car, but you won't get the steering wheel functionality or in dash display to work.
The main problem you will have is the 203 is non-standard single din tailored unit and really only fits the mercs it was designed for.

I do not think that CD players are coded, sure if you fit one to your car when it did not have one you may have to tell the car that it has one. The player does have to be the correct type

Sorry malcolm

I wasn't arguing. I was thinking of the 4 or 5 digit code you have to enter to get the unit functioning on installation.

No all good discussion,, Just been all through the install papers and nothing on coding, just recognition on STAR

This is an in between dates thing, though MB say that no coding after 2000, in practice this often means new models after that date, I had this problem on my 129. Perhaps Alfie can clarify this a little

W203 Audio10 unit will only fit ina prefacelifted W203 or prefacelifted W209, no where else. It does not have a code but needs to see the correct canbus signals otherwise it wont work.

W210 Audio10 will have a code. This is a single din unit that will fit other cars but again will need a Canbus to work properly.

Mine is from a C220 CDi Estate, Dec 2002. not factory fitted, but fitted after, maybe to replace a tape player, I dont know.

Anyways, mine has a code, because I just got it from MB Bridgend. I am told, its 050611. How do you enter it? There are no number buttons apart from 1234.

maybe being stupid, but need the answer.
thanks

I think it depends on what car the unit came out of originally as i have had 2 different Audio 10's fitted in my AMG a Radio/Cassette & a Radio/CD player both worked fine after entering the 5 figure security code.
Some Audio 10's require you to enter a 5 figure number (5 figure number supplied with stereo) every time the power is disconnected and others will only work in a specific vehicle (coded but to a particular car).
I think it depends on the fascia on the stereo front, the ones normally fitted in 208's 210's 202's with the more square fascia only need the 5 figure code entering to get to work, the later ones with more curved features similar to what is fitted in the 203 will need to be recoded to the vehicle's chassis number.

The right hand Knob of the Unit is to select the number.

only got buttons on rhs, there is a knob on the lhs, the volume control?

Also, as you can see, have been given a six digit number, and most people talk about a 5 digit. Is this ok?

If MB in their wisdom code these to a particular vehicle, how do you go about fitting it to a different MB, same model, 203.

Havnt tried the code, as new radio is fitted to the car, so cant plugin.

toad

this is sooooo wrong just to change a car radio.

Just bought a used Audio 10 unit (model no MF2910 with 4 way rocker switches either side and 3 push buttons either side + central turn knobs either side), the unit itself plays a cd - I'm sure you know the unit I'm talking about. I'm also expecting delivery of a CD Cartridge Player model 3010 for connection to it (they are optical connection units).
All this stuff about "only working with the car it was originally installed in" is really bugging me, as I'm now somewhat bothered that I've bought audio equipment (with Mercedes written all over it) that will essentially be junk for my car. It is a model with a 5 digit code and I believe it came from a C-Class. I'm wanting to put it into an 1998 model SL320 (it is the unit that I have seen in many SL R129's of latter vintage). Albeit I can appreciate security for these things I would find it hard to believe that Mercedes would make it impossible to swap these units between there own cars. Can someone give me the accurate lowdown on this so I can either sleep in peace tonite or order in some prozac, ta. :-|
Regards to all

Hi Malcolm, appreciate your reply. I have no problems that the Audio 10 and CD Changer 3010 will work together (they s'pose to) it was just this business that I've read about the Audio 10 head unit ending up not working because there is something else besides the coding that it wants to collaborate and identify with on the vehicle - that's what's bugg'in me.

By the way (and you may come across this request elsewhere as I'm new to this forum forum and as such I've put it in other places) in your wisdom, do you know, or can you recommend a good, reliable and professional audio installer who knows their stuff about Mercedes installations. Thanks ;)

This coding of the changer is something that I have never heard of or needed to do, there is no coding in WIS, only for the radio if a new one is fitted. I can send you the retro fit instructions

If I can have an Email address I can send it to you
