I just got an A class yesterday, it has the Audio 20 but no CD changer. I've burnt about 6 discs every way I can think of but it isn't reading any of them.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs, here...

Are you burning the CDs as audio CDs or as MP3s as suggested by your posting title? Unless your head unit is specifically designed to play MP3s i.e. has an MP3 decoder, you'll have to burn them as audio.

Also check the type of media you are using - I find I have more luck using CD-R media (write-once) as opposed to the re-writable stuff.

Hi - this isn't helpful of me I'm afraid  but my Audio 10 won't play burnt discs either. I assumed it's the age of the unit and haven't been arsed yet to enquire or post about it.

I'd be interested to know if there is a particular format of digital file which it'll play. I suspect not, and that it is indeed the age/design of the unit.

Mine wont even play "protected" cd's. I have an Eric Clapton one (Me and Mr Johnson) that plays on EVERY cd player I have except the one on the car and the one on my laptop. This is not a copy, this is the pukka CD.

Hi - what's the file extension which we should use to burn as an audio file rather than MP3? I accept that we'd have to do some digging around and not just blast it through Media Player or i-tunes?

Cheers

I have the standard Audio 10 single CD player (nearly 4 years old, now) and it plays about 95% of the discs I burn. I don't use anything special - just Windows Media Player's burn function and TDK CD-R media.

The only trouble I've had is with unusually long track lengths - around 20 minutes is the maximum for some reason.

Thanks for the replys. It's supposed to play MP3, WMA and WAV according to the booklet. Yes, I'm burning, via Media player v10, I've also tried an itunes MP3 disc (it burns MP3's, not AAC's), and even a Windows Media player data disc, which turned all the tracks into wma.
It still didn't play unfortunately. When I load it displays Track 1 listed, but nothing plays. I'm using TDK CDR-80 (700mb) and Verbatum CDR (700mb).

The booklet says no larger CD's than 700mb, so I assume the standard 700mb is OK. Minimum bit rate has to be 128k, maximum 99 tracks per CD and all the file extentions are supposed to be Romeo/Joliet which I'm not certain of but I assumed was a windows standard.
I have also tried burning a Jukebox CD and still no joy.

What a size are your CD's Casanunder and would you mind sharing what Operating system you're using please?

Mmm, that's odd. Can't get mine to work and it's on CD-R not RW, usually Verbatim or Maxell discs and a high bit rate, burnt nice and slow for quality. Also through i tunes but on a PC. I have an i-mac but we're talking a very early i-mac which would just die trying to do anything meaningful these days, I'm sure!!

Cheers

alex are you burning a session by any chance? i.e. all cd's are multi session, they're so cheap I burn everything as single session or in Toast terms (write disk) setting is DAO not TAO, should be somewhere in Nero on the PC.

What brand would you recommend nialler? I thought TDK and Verbatum were pretty decent.

Hi Nialler - interesting point, although you've lost me at DAO/TAO I will investigate.

Just doing the one session - i.e. a playlist of (for instance) 15 tracks straight out of i-tunes own BURN command

Well it seems I was lied to, I've just looked on the user manual on Mercedes website.
Selecting an MP3 track

MP3 CDs can only be played in the CD changer* drive.

Use the buttons on the multi-function steering wheel.
Switch on the audio system (please refer to the separate operating instructions) and select the MP3 player.

You will find an overview of the menus on more.

Just shows, don't believe the sales men.

Alex don't mean to sound condescending but you have checked in your itunes prefs that you are in fact burning audio as opposed to mp3 cds, itunes burns both, might have it on my pc and I'll check it out, though I have had a couple of cd's that have not read, currently using a brand called hi-space, they work out about 8c(6p) or less a cd and using a panasonic drive, which I have to replace as it will not read burnt dvds anymore.

I'll check nero and if you need an installer email me, I've peeeed around with my dvd/cd drivers on the pc to get the sims running for the girls so not sure if it is dao/tao but certainly something similar.

Hi Nialler - that's not condescending at all and gratefully received! I'm no more than a competent user and I'm going to have a good old rummage and see what I can do. I've not even checked my settings and will now do so....Cheers

Do cd changers for Audio 10 play mp3?

Hi,

After the discussion, I wasn't quite sure in the end: do MB cd changers which work with Audio 20 play mp3's? What abot Audio 10 CD?

I have an Audio 10 CD (possibly BE6021) and bought recently a second-hand MC3198 cd changer and am not even sure 100% if they will be compatible (posted a question elsewhere about this) but if it does, and if it turns out it plays mp3, that would be a great bonus. Or maybe it doesn't but there is another, newer cd changer that still works with the Audio 10 and plays mp3? Any ideas? Thank you.

Try 'Infiniti' blank CD's. They seem to be decent quality. You get a tub of 100 for about £12.00 in most PC warehouses.

Too late for the original poster I guess and to be fair I only recently discovered it, but the CD changer on my 04 E class (Audio20) plays MP3s. However the identical unit on my Dad's 02 E class doesn't.
The audio20 will only address 99 tracks so you have to merge a few if you fill the disk. Still around 40 albums in the cd changer is great.
