Audio 20 DAB Issue

Quick back story:

Bought 2011 S204 C Class AMG Sport in late Dec from indy dealer. Took it straight to MB and registered it with them, took out service plan. Apart from the last service by the indy, the car has full main dealer history.

I asked MB for a print out of the history and any warranty work to ensure it had been carried out - all was fine, injectors and wiring replaced under warranty recall etc etc.

When they printed the info, they gave me a copy of the factory options and associated codes that the car was ordered. In there, I noticed an option for DAB radio - which isn't visible on the Audio 20.

I didn't think it had DAB. Now I know the car is supposed to have it, I'm now wondering why it's not showing on the audio source options.

I've checked the fuse for "Satellite Radio" in the engine fuse box, which I rightly or wrongly assumed was for the DAB module and was fine.

Any ideas?

Not sure on this one but code 537 is DAB, have you tried the AUX button.

Yeah, that's the code i've got in the options list spec. It says the code and then in the next column, explains that it's DAB radio.

I've not tried AUX as I assumed that would be the 3.5mm jack in the centre console armrest.

I was expecting the DAB option to be selectable from the radio frequency band submenu, where you can select FM, MW etc etc.

Is this not the case? Where does the DAB option appear normally for those that have it factory fitted?

As far as I know this DAB unit will be an add on, and not incorporated in the radio.

Thanks for getting back Malcolm. I don't know anything about that, but that's not what I was asking.

I was after finding out where you select the option to switch from FM to DAB and according to the mercedes manual linked HERE http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual-cars/ba/cars/w212/en/manual_base.shtml?id=../../../hu_cars/NTG4_5_ECE/en/audio20/index_start.shtml&part=audio20, it should be on the drop down where the frequency band lives...

..but it isn't there. As it was a factory fit, it's either one of two things:

1/ Faulty/broken or fuse blown
2/ Not actually fitted to the car and the factory options list is wrong.

there may be a third option and kind of what Malcolm was eluding to, it could be an additional box that plugs in somewhere into the car that is required for DAB and the previous owner removed it before returning the car? So yes it's a factory option that was installed but someone whipped it hence it not showing in the sub menu like in the link.

Hmmm. I suppose they could have, but I doubt it's likely... is it?

Where is the factory DAB module installed so I can check for presence/absence then?

Looking at other fora and comand.co.uk, it seems that in order to have DAB as a factory option, you must have the Audio 20 CD Changer or Comand head unit and not the single CD, as it doesn't come with a fibre input (according to sources).

If this is indeed the case, then the factory options list must be wrong as I have the single CD unit.

Its definitely the single CD factory fit version.

No - but even so, the Audio 20 with CD Changer has the 6 disc changer incorporated into the head unit - as in the head unit holds all 6 CDs.

ah my mistake then, thought it was like the older audio 20's where it was a separate unit.

Not with NTG4.5 in the facelift S204s - they're incorporated.

There are no retro fit instructions that I can find but the DAB tuner is under the rear floor cover in the boot, right at the rear. Yes the info is there for DAB with Audio 20 with CD changer.

I doubt this will make your day... it reads to me like the previous owner either had head unit fail/stolen or bought a new car without DAB and swapped the head unit and took out the DAB tuner and coded the car as poverty spec?

I'll chase it up with MB dealer. It could be that the most plausible reason is an admin error on the dealer records as the Audio 20 manual in the log book is for the single cd audio 20.

The previous owner traded it in at the dealer I purchased it, so doubt he or they would remove it for another car either but I'll check the serial number.

Poverty spec? Haha. Good terminology but it's not like I'm listening to a Vauxhall audio system

Thanks for the location Malcolm. I'll have a good look tomorrow when it's light but having looked under there to check that everything was present, I saw nothing else other than spare tyre, tools and the auxiliary battery.
