I wonder if anyone can help, because I am totally baffled by the manual.

In my new C-class W204 I have fitted an Audio 20 + 6 CD disc Audio Changer, and I am told i also have an iPod connection (not sure where the heck that is).

Anyway, I have followed the information as per the instructions on page 30 that says I can play MP3's, however 3 different disc types and even the use of both CD-R and CD-RW still refuses to find anything. I have tried more than 1 of the slots from the changer just to rule that out.

I am using Windows Vista to just drop and drop the tracks onto the CD.

Any tips?

You do need to use disc with a high reflectivity there is only one that works most of the time, that is TDK

When you put the disc in the reflection kick starts the disc, and it only has a couple of sec to read the TOC, if it cant it will say no disc

Does this also apply if i burn them as normal audio tracks or just a problem with MP3s?

Unless you bought the iPod kit and it was installed by the dealer then you just have an Aux In connection on the left hand side of the glovebox. It's just a 3.5mm stereo jack socket.

I have no direct knowledge of the MB CD players (yet!) but my experience is that many audio devices that play MP3 CD's won't cooperate if the disk isn't finalised. I have no knowledge of Vista either (doing well here, this post is all conjecture  ) but if you're using Vista to drag-and-drop the tracks onto the CD then I suspect that the session may be finalised but the disk not finalised. Is there some option in Vista to finalise the disk? Perhaps right-mouse off the CD drive letter in Windows Exploder and look for an option in the menu? Sorry to be a bit vague, but I use XP and either Roxio or Nero to burn CD's...

Yes this has been an on going issue since the recordable CDs started in 1992 the disc has to be finished before they will play

Cheers, just found it. Is it just for iPods or can any Aux device, such as other MP3 players work?

I think your on the right line. I just used the very same cheap CD and made them audio tracks rather than MP3....the autochanger played them instantly within 1 sec of me hitting play.

Sorted.

Following the advice of phil I have cracked it. I forgot i had Nero Express installed. I just burn't a CD-RW as a jukebox, and it appears to know how to correctly handle multisession.

In terms of CD's I have used. Both Sony 650MB CD-RW650 (high gloss) and a cheap 700MB CD-RW made by Nashua (low gloss, almost green colour) worked perfectly.

No, you can connect anything you like with an audio out. Well actually, to qualify that statement, I'm not sure what the input sensitivity or impedance is so I don't know if it works with a line level signal or not but it definitely works OK with the headphone output of an MP3 player.
