Has anyone upgraded their headunit on an old merc? Not being able to stream from my iPhone is annoying but seen a few cars with new stereos fitted and the frame around it looked awful

Mine was professionally fitted by Comand online (forum sponsors). Brilliant job, full steering wheel functionality.

I prefer the standard MB style over the slab of glass of a generic model.
There are these model specific Android versions for some models.

Each to his own. The very small screen on the original was unhelpful. The clean lines of my new one please me more.

I think the rounded lines of the HU complements the cars aesthetics better than the rectangular HU's although I do worry about the quality of the Chinese units. Is this one of the Siecane or Erisin HU's.?

Comand (AKA Unique Car Sounds) are in Lightwater Surrey, a couple of miles from J3 M3 - and a bit of a hike from The Wirral! However, if you give them a call or email with your VIN (so they can look up the build sheet) and what you want to achieve, they can give you sound advice (oops, sorry!!) and may even know a decent installer closer to you!

£1500.00 incl. They also gave me a cable connection for my phone inside the armrest. I'm now a Waze devotee for navigation.
That’s a mental price

It is an Erisin unit which was around £300 and was basically plug and play.
It still has steering wheel controls plus I added a reversing cam and Dab+ as options.
It really showed up just how bad the stock speakers were so I also replaced those with some Focal units. Sound quality is impressive tbh.

Whats your evaluation? I've read quite a few reports of poor radio reception.

FM is amazing. Dab is rubbish with the stick on aerial. At some point I will fit a proper one but also have a splitter to try first.
The thing is though that it is easier to stream live radio anyway so you have to have a good reason to stick with Dab.
4G data is so low priced currently. I pay £10 for 10gb per month on my phone which I hotspot to when in the car.

I have a Nextbase DAB+ adapter in my SL and the reception is excellent. I wonder if it is the aerial or the adapter which has the biggest impact.

Definitely the aerial. I’m using DAB-Z for the app which can give you some data for the station including bitrate and signal strength.
Locally I only receive a few channels anyway which are mainly BBC. These are pretty good with Radio 3 broadcasting at the best quality.

In that case buy a Nextbase aerial and see if DAB reception is resolved. I only paid £30 for everything so an aerial must be cheap.
