Hello

I think I need a new tape player in the car as the blaupunkt one dos'nt seem to receive my MP3 player very well useing the Tape adaptor. But there is one one ebay see link below:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MERCEDES-BENZ...255656QQcategoryZ3288QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone know if this will fit my C200 elegance 2000 (V), and it says its brand new and boxed, so I am taking it that it is fairly new from Mercedes.
Its ****** cheap atm so I may well put a bid in!

Thanks

Concho:D

Your car is wired for optical, though it will work as a radio, there is no guarantee it will play MP3

Tape

The MP3 plugs into the tape adaptor which is just a hollow tape with a head that utilises the amp within the car stereo.

From my experience, it may not be that you need a new tape player. I've found those MP3 adapters are, to be frank, not very good.

I have to agree with you on that one, Ive tried several different types of "cassette dongles" and none of them gives what could be considered good sound quality

Have you tried the "I-Trip" that transmits your MP3 through your radio?

I'm tempted to try one before splashing out on a new stereo, but have read both good and bad things about them.

Tape

For me the Dongle works better. I have also just bought an 05 plate Passat which comes with a tape player and the dongle is without doubt superb quality sound through MP3 player. The transmitter thing I have tried & to be honest its poor quality. I may well just buy it seeing as its only £2 at the moment + £15 delivery, can't go too wrong really.

I'm tempted to just buy a new stereo as I suppose I could give up the 10 disk changer if I had my whole music collection on an I-pod.

Has anyone got one of these that they would recommend?
Basically a standard Radio/Cassette with something that pugs into the MP3 player.

This lead can only be used on higher spec head units (Bremen, LA, Acapulco, Bronx, Seattle, Toronto etc) with 2 aux inputs. If your head unit does not have the 2nd aux input (AUX2) you should use the AUX1 lead instead which utilises the CD changer plug of your head unit. Please see our other items.

Do you think this basically means that if your stereo can connect to a multidisk changer, then this will be compatible?

Don't know about a multi changer, but the lead says that it will connect to an MP3 player!

If you can get an Ipod with opitical output that would plug in the back of the radio inplace of the changer. there are adaptors that convert.

Problem with using transmitter based is that the frequency response on FM only goes to 15k -3db, so it will lose alot.

Concho , before you go through the task of ripping out the old and fitting new, I strongly suggest that you check the "cassette" thingy in another car to make sure that the Mp3 system is not the one at fault.

My daughter bought me a CD player which had the same "cassette" thingy and it was crap - took it back and got another one which works perfectly on my Sony radio cassette on the BOAT!

Tape

The cassette adapter & MP3 are fine as they both work perfectly in my other car (VW Passat.;) )
