My auto box seems reluctant to change down from fourth gear. For example, if I slow for a roundabout to, say 20 mph, it stays in fourth and I need to manually select third to get some reasonable acceleration.
Does anyone know if this is normal or does it need adjustment.
New fluid and filter recently fitted.
Many thanks
John

Is there any difference between E & S ??. Could be a vac. leak at solenoid.

Economy/Standard (no not sport) switch could be inop, makes the car feel very sluggish if stuck in E.

kickdown cable?

hey ya. What I would suggest having a play with is the kickdown cable. If you look at the throttle assembely it has a cream sort of nob on the end and a red covering on the cable. (its below the throttle assembely) Now on the very end there is a black clip that has a point pointing to towards a groove on the cream nob. If the arrow and the groove line up then it should eliminate this as a problem. If not just turn it so it just takes the slack outta the cable. You can generally have a play with this cable to see what suits ur driving style.....it can take a while but its worth it. REMEMBER WHERE IT WAS ORIGINALLY!!!

Another thing to check is if this cable is excessivly slack.....you may need another cable as was the case on dads 260e.

Just a note..... In my 190e it once you get over about 45mph it wont change back out of fourth.... (it doesnt need to)

hope this is of help

another thought! fluid level

i see you said youve had the fluid changed... make sure the level is correct this can often reak havoc on gear changes.

Run the car to operating temp
Leave in park or neutral (cant remember which one)
check fluid level
