hi, have been told the 'box is sealed for life, this does not sound like good engineering especially for mercedes. car now at 102k and feel that an oil change wouldn't go amiss! anyone with any ideas?
cheers

Most agree about this issue being difficult to accept. I'd certainly change mine from time to time! Hate the idea of not having an engine dipstick or drain plug too but now common with MB.

I was told by a member of MB Technical in Milton Keynes that they are now recommending changing the oil in auto boxes at 60,000 mile intervals. Clearly the "life" expectancy is falling within the warranty period of yoo many cars and costng MB a fortune in waranty claims.

'Sealed for life' is probably what they tell fleet managers, it reduces service costs and therefore MB sell more cars.

I posted a 'howto' recently, its not that difficult to change the fluid. Couple of hours work at the most.

as the car is now at 102k and seems too good to change (respray courtesey of mercedes - warranty at nearly 8 years old!) i will probably change oil and keep car!
