Malcolm, didn't they have electronic lock-up (at least on the top gear) well before that. I'm no technical expert but vaguely remember publicity about electronic lock up and the benefits from way back when?

Hi Chris, the 722.6 was the first that used a ECU to control an electric plate in the box. The earlier boxes did lock up partially as in the 722.6 but done with pressure and vacuum.

There are no electrics in the earlier boxes, it is the lock up that improves the economy, and this did not happen till 1996, ZF may have had a electric lock up before this.

I'm just picking people's brains and giving you something to do. Wanted to see how many different answers i got. By the way - does anybody know how many balls there are on a front wheel bearing. 1992 SL -300 24 valve:lol:
