hi,
when towing my caravan with my ml270 cdi auto, if i go up a fairly steep hill the engine temp goes up slightly and as the gearbox changes down i find that after it drops a couple of gears the engine seems to be revving and there is a lack of drive, if i take my foot off for a couple of secs and then put it back down it seems to be ok at a slower pace. can anybody help with this problem????? thanks

firsst thing to check is your ATF levels, low atf will cause a feeling similar to a manual clutch slip

S class
Has the oil and filter been changed recently, It would do no harm to have the codes read on a star disgnostic as you may have a few stored faults

Hello and welcome,, I cant recall reading a post like this before, and not with an ML,,I think that I would find a good indie and see if any codes are recorded

hi,
thanks for quick replies. has been checked and no faults recorded but have not changed oil and filter, have only had car 3 months and don't know when this was last done.
the car has done 125k in total.
do you think oil and filter change is the solution then??
thanks

As the fluid should be changed at every 40k miles, and it is never done on a service, then it could solve all of your problems.

A good indie will change the fluid and filter for around £165

No it is not hard but things must be kept very clean,, if the car is before 09-99 you may have a drain plug , but you probably will not have one. So to drain it all the oil cooler pipe will have to be disconnected and the engine spun for a few seconds to get it all out, if you do not do this, you will only change 3 liters out of the 7 in the box.

This is the same box

and so is this
