I posted this in the wrong place earlier, so here it is again. The selector of my 230 SLK is stuck in Park. I can sometimes move it out, but as soon as I put it back into P, it jams again. I'm not too bad with a bag of spanners and would rather fix it myself if possible.....any ideas?
Thanks,
Ken

Could be a faulty brake light switch (check this first) or, it could be a faulty solenoid, this is located close to the gearlever and locks the lever in park, it is actuated by the operation of the brake light switch.

I put a reply on the other post, but basically there is a manual override for the brake lock out. If its this, and not the gearbox, then the override will get it to work, and you'll have your answer. Do check the brake lights come on when you press the pedal though, as this is the most likely cause.
