Sprinter 318 Auto 2007.Van starts as normal, put it into D and van moves but won't get above '2nd' gear.It just makes the revs get extremely high.Any help would be appreciated. The battery did go dead before this happened, would this cause anything?

    Thanks

Sounds like gearbox plate. Have you had any codes read /cleared?

Have seen this happen when the reverse light switch malfunctions - safety default. Check your brake lights.

If you started the VAN with a low battery that is cranking volts under 10 volt then the gearbox ECU cannot set correctly.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for all your replies.Van is currently in the garage.I haven't spoke to the mechanic properly yet as I'm out of the country but he reckons it might be a sensor?

    He thinks it's the selector?

Reverse lights are controlled by the selector module. It doesnt have a reverse light switch. So it wont be this.

Would need the fault codes to give a better guess at what it might be.

Sorry - Stuffed that up. It was to do with the brake light switch, not the reverse. I DID say "check the brake lights" so obviously I got myself confused...Created exactly those problems. New switch and all was well.

    Hi guys,
I'm still waiting for the codes but my mechanic has ordered a gearbox module. That is what Mercedes in Germany said the problem is.I've also found out since that after my battery went dead the van was started with a booster.Would this have damaged the module?
