- I have a C203 CDI but change cars all the time.
Hi guys. Maybe you can share your views with me. Customer brought a C250 Turbo Auto R reg at 119 000 miles. 202 128 chassis. Engine is fine without any fault codes and runs perfect. But automatic Transmission doesn't change gears. I have done Diagnostic check on Drive modules and retrived two fault codes on Automatic transmission (using X431) The codes were, Code 001; 017 no fault text specified at present; Resistance too high, CODE 002; 113; No fault text specified at present. Resistance too low.
After clearing the codes car drove fine changing gears perfectly for about hal an hour then stuck to first gear again. And customer call me back asking what can be done at next step.
I suggested the next step would be changing the gear oil also filter. He asked me to do the job. Bought new filter and oil from mercedes, remove the oil pan and oil filter, checked it, Oil had a burning smell in it also was dark, didn't see any metal particles or grinding bits in the oil pan. I thought the colour and smell is acceptable because the oil was never changed before. ( remembering the mileage of 119.000 miles.)
I didn't have the Dipstick tool so I measured the oil removed from the box, and added about 250ml more which come to 3.5 litres total. Auto data indicated that empty Auto box with new converter takes about 5 litres. So it was about right amount. Done diagnostics and same codes come back again. Clear them and took the car for a test drive on M25 and clocked about 50 miles running excellent, gear changes, and kick down functioing perfectly. Come back to garage and had coffe and a little chat with the client. ( about 2 hours car rest) and customer took the car and gone. Had a call almost immediately saying that it doesn't change gears again. So back to square one again.
Tomorrow I am planning to spent some time and check the battery, terminals, charging, and also check the terminals (connection Plug) of the Auto Box module.
I don't think it is mechanical condition of the box. Because when you put in D or any gears to move it is very responsive without any clank or knock or noise. Also gear changes are so smooth almost un noticable.
Has any one experinced similar problem? Thank you
