I have always loved their boxes, many years ago (1964)I had some Alvis td's the early cars used the BMC/Leyland manual boxes, they were noisy crunchy and horrible. The series 1A used the ZF and these boxes were so nice it just made the cars a joy to drive, the second car with the ZF was my Alfa 2600, and again just so silky smooth.

Mercedes are the only firm in Europe to use their own boxes, ZF supply the rest.

Thanks Simon.

I used to know a guy who owned an auto transmission refurbisher..
He always said the ZF auto was by far the best..
They are a German company so why the hell didn't Mercedes use them ??
Jaguar use them after all on the XF !!
