Hi Bini, glad to speak tomorrow. I believe the tc can not be switched off on later boxes.

Found them on autotrader, I checked them out online and were no bad marks on them and found nothing.

As they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Months later, finally an update! Took it to star, who were lovely guys, looked at it and said its deff the Torque converter. Went back to the original garage, who were brilliant as they convinced the company that were doing the TC to look at it again. The company said there was no issues at all, but when it came back all working fine. Garage as a precaution changed celling rings input shafts.

Thanks for everyone's input. Finally can rest easy....till the next issue!

Hi there - I have what I think is the same problem on a C220 Cdi I have just taken in PX against one of my company vans.

It looked lovely and drove well when the guy came round, so was happy to take it.

But every morning when cold, the car starts without issue - until i select drive or reverse the engine cuts out.

Leave it 5 mins to get up to temperature and it drives lovely... but just not from cold.

Can I ask the OP if this sounds like the same problem? Also how much I shouls budget to fix?

I got what I thought was a good deal but need to work out whether I should cut my losses and send it to auction or keep and try and fix.

Its a shame really, its a lovely car...

It happens on mine too. But mine is an E220CDI, 18 years old with 247,000 miles on the clock.
I think it is the Torque Convertor on the way out, but I`m happy to let it tick over to warm up rather than spend perhaps £2k !

Both are either the tc or the lockup solenoid

Reman aftermarket is the way to go or reman mb OEM

Or, depending on the car and value, disabling the tc is much cheaper but has its drawbacks.

Having repaired plenty off auto trans, earthmoving, not Benz I have always thought tc was always an overhaul option,?? Tho if anything broke up damage can make o/h unecconomic. Have Benz made that a no option?

Hello all, what your problem is the clutch in ithe t converter has gone not a big job at around £550

I have E250 Coupe, 2011 and have had an ongoing issue since i bought the car which is the car stalls when put into gear when cold. On a warm day its fine, once past the initial start its perfect, no issues at all.

I first got the gear box serviced, still remained, then the torque converter and the issue is still the same. You feed a massive shud and it stalls.

The garage then tried to do a few thigns to try and override a part of the gear box but it still remains. They're now saying it could be £2-3000 by stripping down the gear box and seeing what the issue is, money i dont have.

I was wondering if anyone had similar issues and what i could suggest to the garage?

Yes he is one of the best in the uk
