Okay I know I am going to take a pummeling for asking this one bet hell here goes.

Can you put a E Class 2002 modal through an automatic car wash with the badge and ariel for the phone.

I know I should clean it myself but I am not one to wash cars?

Still have not bought mats for it or had it cleaned since getting it 2 months ago!

Thanks

Chris.

I would not use a car wash, you do not have the nano paint

Each to their own, mate. I like the look of a nice clean car, but especially at this time of year, it's difficult to keep em clean.

For what it's worth, I have put my 1999 C class through a car wash, and it suffered no ill effects...

But if you did not take it out in the rain,,it would not need doing, and prevention has always been better than the cure

Agree with Malc on that one!

Although there are some good car washes about, the 'soft-cloth' ones in particular (if you can find one).

My experience differs slightly though, I had a black Neon some time ago, viewing it closely revealed an absolute myriad of tiny scratches and swirl marks - looked like someone had been all over the car with a worn out pan scourer. The previous owner used a car wash most weekends! Swore there and then i'd never use a car wash on the Merc. Get to grips with a wool mitt and some decent shampoo - you won't regret it.

I do like a clean car but drive 600 miles a week and it is caked in salt and crap will clean it inside and out but might pay a polish dude to do it for a tenner. Seem to be a lot of Polish car washers opening up!

Nothing wrong with the 'car wash filly' at all Malc,

IMHO, you would find yourself visiting that particular establishment quite often, i'll wager.
Not an automatic washer in sight, so she gets my vote.

Incidentally, I can't resist washing my ride, even in winter. Perfect opportunity to check all the paintwork and fittings.

I used to do mine every week but now I'm back to 600 miles per week I just can't be bothered. Less time and it will just be back filthy again within the same day. She's looking pretty grubby now though so I may just let the Polish guys do their thing or if the temp gets above zero and I can find the time I suppose I may do it myself.. I'm just consoling myself by knowing that there is a beautiful claybar smooth car with a thick coat of carnuba wax sitting snugly under all that grime and salt.

Wash it by hand, and enjoy the exercise and fresh air.

You get a better wash by hand and notice any issues with the bodywork.
As a compromise you could always use a garage jet wash

Excellent point. I always feel you learn more about the condition of a car when cleaning it by hand. I have usually discovered this in retrospect when washing for the first time cars I have bought. I have even considered taking potential purchases for a test drive and washing them before committing to buy!

Although it would be logical and informative, you may feel that it would err on the side of obsession?

And so you wash it by hand and die of a heart attack when you see the new dents and chips that you have picked up:shock:

I have never used a mechanical car wash since a friend used the local one and found the rotating brushes had collected a bent metal coat hanger radio aeriel off the previous old banger to go through.
