Hi guys, I am having 200E w124 1991 made. All of the windows are manually raised. Which brand do you recommend to get but Merc? (they are very expensive).

There are many breakers who have perfectly serviceable ones at great prices. Good article on UK parts suppliers on the Mercedes Benz Owners Club website. From memory it is in the section on sample articles from their magazine. If you don't get a better answer from the many enthusiasts on this site you could also try www.Benzworld.org
Good luck

I was playing around with one window tonight and I think the motor has gone. Probably something to do with it being full of water.

A new motor from the dealer is expensive.

On my other car, I looked at repairing a window before. Because it was so old, I would have to fit a new mech and then replace the motor. It was a large price to pay just to look cool at MacDonalds. I just got a manual setup from the scrapy.

On your car, are all the wires in place? If not, it will be a major job. I have a hunch that there will be a unit under the left hand side rear seat to control the windows.

If you have to buy this and wire it in, it will be very expensive.

Turnipsock,

If you are sure it's just the motor ( which, if it's full of water is probably a good conclusion), motors from Ford Granada/Scorpio models fit. These are cheaper at the "scrappy" than a motor from a Mercedes.

Hope this helps,

Window Regulator Repaired anyone?

W126 SEL 85
I've just taken out my Passenger Window Regulator as it only moved the window down about an inch and then nothing, either up or down.

Having dismantled the thing down to the Unit I wonder if anyone has any advice as to either opening the riveted backplate of the drive box or taking off the mastic sealed housing which covers the windings (I assume this terminology is correct for the parts.

I can get a click or spark when connecting to a battery, but no movement. The Gear cog is fairly rusty but just using WD40 has not made any difference. So, my thinking is that to take off the backplate may reveal considerable rust, which after cleaning may solve the problem - or the motor is much the same as a Washing machine and has brushes and the core may need to be cleaned of surface dirt which prevents the motor working.
Am I talking rubbish never having opened up one of these things?

Thanks to all who refuse to chuck a part simply because it seems to be at the end of its life - but usually never is.

I had a look behind the plate and it was full of water, but did appear to be to bad and should still work.

I took the motor cover of and had a look at the motor brushes, they were pretty far gone. I couldn't see an easy way to replace the brushes. It would involve a lot unsoldering.

If you see somebody trying to figure out how to get a door panel of a Granada it will probably be me. Good tip though.

I've taken off the plate, and the wider mechanism started to work on a battery. If the photo's print you will see no internal rust. Ran some WD40 and ordinary oil in among the wheel and worm drive then wiped off and greased. Thought it a good idea to give it plenty of to and fro with the battery. Admittedly it started to creak a little (perhaps the brushes getting a bit too hot).
Put plate back on with one through rivet and a couple of short ones. As no pressure on plate couldn't be troubled to drill out all rivets points. Put some silicon round edge of plate to stop ingress of any water.
Back working in door, perhaps not as fast as when original, but result - touch wood!

My device looks a bit different from yours as mine is held together with screws.

My motor was intermitant for a while so I'm pretty sure the brushes have worn out.

When I look closely at the brushes, one has melted the plastic that holds it in place.

Tricky to find. But when you open General Forum a page shows a list of all the threads. Just above the list, on the left, a button says New Thread. Left click on that and all will be revealed!! So you have to come out of a thread and get back to the list of threads to start a new one.:)
