As my car is parked outside, I want to remove the aux. battery to give it a full conditioning charge, which will take several hours.

1. Will I still be able to lock the car without the aux. battery in situ.

2. Will any of the electrical systems be upset with the removal.

If it's like our r230 no it won't lock unless you use the physical key (test this in all locks before disconnecting the battery!).
Again if it's like the r230 you'll need to reteach the windows, steering sensor, sunroof if you have one etc. All easy done without diagram kit.

Why with the tailgate wide open, surely you can feed the power cable through the rear passenger door window with only a slight gap and into the boot to do it.

That way you can still lock the car.

Now why didn't I think of that.

I used to feed my cable from the boot of the SL in a less strained area through the rubber seal, boot shut and locked

Yours has the ‘Malcolm socket’ I’m guessing A?
It does but it's not currently (see what I did there) in use due to the Malcolm charger not working correctly. At the moment I'm using my Ctek MXS10 with crocodile clips on the battery posts. I keep meaning to make a Malcolm socket adapter for the Ctek...

I extended a Ctek connector to behind the passenger head light of my Roadster so I could connect the Ctek to it without having to remove the front boot bucket
