I think I'll go for it. I usually like to keep my cars standard, but I think the grille mod is a very subtle one, that most wouldn't notice.

Does anyone know if the avantgarde grille was ever fitted as standard or an optional extra on the w202?

Your point about keeping the car standard is valid, and that the average person would think that it looks nicer than the normal without know why, you could always keep the old one

No it wasn't fitted as standard or as an option, but it does freshen up the front end and I was very pleased with the transformation and I did keep the original just in case I sell it and the new owner wants it, I too got mine from ebay and mine cost me £96 including delivery. If you do put one on and you don't like you can always sell it on.

I've ordered one. I hope the quality is up to scratch. Will post pics once it's arrived and fitted. It was hard work paying for it as paypal transferred me to the sellers checkout system which was all in German. Had to translate it bit by bit using google http://translate.google.com/translate_t . What a tool that is. never used it before.

It was an MB original part and had part number B66880127. Cost between £160-£200. Even MB do not have much knowledge of this part.

I would go aftermarket though as the quality is not bad.

I did not know that, I was always told that you couldn't get one apart from a aftermarket one or as some people have done is get the W210 avantgarde and trim it down to size.

Heres a pic of my new grille. bought and delivered from Germany for £35. I think it gives the car a great facelift. along with a dose of resin polish to the paintwork. Notice the handles too. colour coded by myself. This i did because it is the only part of the car which isn't colour coded, and it's always bugged me a little. I'm glad i did these too as when i did i found the IR sensor on the drivers door handle had broken wires, and that is why I couldn't use the total closure feature. I'm trying to source a replacement now as the break in the wires is too close to the sensor to be repaired.

That'll be if for cosmetic mods now i think. as any further would spoil the car.
