An old B-Class.
None at all ;) Probably a throw back from when I paid cash/cheque
I could understand rounding so that writing a cheque was easier (who remembers those days) , but why try to dribble more into the tank to “really fill it up” after the first click? It is not like the extra say (10) miles range is going to matter.

Since Covid I rarely fill more than the contactless amount unless I have good reason to fill beyond that.

I want to minimise potential contact with anyone who has potentially got the virus.

When I was younger I used to fill what I could afford or the minimum I needed to get to where I was going and back again.
Now I just fill to the brim and don’t think about it, always wait till I get to under 1/4 of a tank or the light comes on

I normally run my tank down until the reserve light comes on then fill it, unless I'm on the motorway and near to home in which case I may put say £20 worth in just so that I can reach a non-motorway filing station.

Although there's the argument about increased fuel efficiency with less fuel in the tank, I still hear my grandfather saying that keeping more fuel in the tank reduces the level of rust that occurs due to water vapour above the fuel level. I guess with plastic tanks in a lot of cars this may be a moot issue.

Until this last week I normally make two motorway trips per week, which equates to nearly a full tank, so no point in just putting a few quid anyway.

Never understood what the advantage is in trying to squeeze a few more drops in after the first click or trying to get the “exact” monetary value.
Brimming your tank is the only accurate way to work out fuel consumption for those that wish to do so, and this always requires carrying on after the "first click"
In fact the first click is no guarantee that your tank is filled to the same level that it was the last time because other factors can come into play which will cause the fuel to blow back and cut off the pump...flow rate for example.
I have used pumps that frequently cause the fuel delivery to cut off during a fill up...it is most annoying!

Trying to get the exact monetary value can be important if paying by cash, because it is much preferable to hand over the correct amount of notes rather than receive up to 99p in change.
Then of course there is the OCD factor as mentioned earlier. :geek:

I thought thats what the computer is for, plus how do you know exactly what you have used (ie what was in the tank before the fill)

I always fill to 2 clicks on the pump then make sure I get every last drop out....I always fill from 1/4 tank or until I get the orange light on.....that reminds me, must do so on the way home tonight from work.

110 Euro for 69 litres of BP Ultmate last night (2 clicks and shake of the nozzle), Reading was a quater of tank, annoying on the W251 the amber low fuel light comes on at a 1/4 tank.

The calculation as to be between brimmed tanks. On my experience manufacturers overstate MPG with the dashboard display.

Certainly this is the case with both my SL350 & my current & last 3 LR Discoveries.

You fill the tank to the top. Drive so many miles. Fill the tank to the top. Take note of how many litres/gallons you've used to drive so many miles & then do the maths to work out mpg ;)

It averages out over time... ;)

First graph is individual fill fuel economy and the second is the average

The second part of the EmilyDad equation is the key

You have way too much free time on your hands. ;) :D
I really don't...

All I need is four pieces of information:
The date
The amount of fuel
The cost
The mileage

From the above, the spreadsheet does all the calculations.

I build it years ago (~2001) when I switched from company car scheme to cash allowance

This is nothing against you so please dont take it that way...but it really annoys me when I hear drivers rattle the pump nozzle in their tank to shake off any drips.
It just sounds so amateurish!
Just for the record it also annoys me when drivers pull up a conventional handbrake without pressing the button first.
Oh and I am not keen on electronic handbrakes.
Yes it is confirmed...i do have mild OCD. :geek:

I am not averse to shaking my nozzle to get rid of any stray drips, but that is for a completely different function entirely. :p
