Hi, I am about to (attempt to anyway!) fit the forementioned pioneer avic-x1r in to my E200 AUTO w124 (95 M plate).

Just a quick question. Where would be the best place to get a speed pulse signal from and also signal for the parking brake switch?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!! I have tried a search already to save asking again but anyone else asking how to fit sat-nav units are asking about newer model cars which I don't think is of any use to me.

Cheers
Barry

picking up a speed pulse in a W124 is a bit hit and miss and the ease on which you do it seems to depend largely on what options were fitted to your car from new.

Check in the "usual place" i.e. where the stereo sits in the centre console you may be lucky and find one there. It should be a yellow/green striped wire but it could equally be a grey one. If neither of these are present then you'll need to pop out the instrument cluster remove the trim above the pedals, reach up and push it out. You'll find the green and yellow wirebehiond there so you can either splice into it or follow it back to the connector on the loom and join on to it there. Whatever method you use make sure you solder the connection on DON'T use a scotchlok.

The parking brake signal you can pick up from the switch behind the handle - easily accessible once you've removed that trim panel above the pedals.

I fitted a Becker sat nav into my W124 so it's not all about new cars :)

I don't know if its true, but I've heard that having cruise control or an external temp sensor means that you have a speed pulse cable, but possibly not one with the correct wave output. There is a part available from MB for a Hall generator that plugs onto the back of the speedo that will give the correct pulse. I remember seeing the part number on a table of different speed pulse locations for different cars produced by Siemens.

I'll have a search for it.

Found it: http://www.siemensvdo.com.au/files/502586_Vehicle Speed Pulse Locator 2004.xls

cheers for all the help guys. i hope to get on ok as I am not scared of taking off trim panels (but do take it very slowly to avoid breaking them!! maybe too slow). I do believe I have located a yellow wire with green spiral through it at the back of the current headunit. doesn't seem to be connected to anything so fingers crossed.
