axle shaft change w123

just wandering if anyone has changed an axle shaft on a w123. my diff looks prity corroded and looks like it might be a swine to get the cover of so any tips along these lines would be apreciated before i start

Not changed one, but popped the axle out from the hub whilst drilling out a droplink bolt. That came out easily enough. After my experiences with working on the w123, I'd advise you to soak absolutely everything with a good penetrating/releasing oil for a day or so before attacking it. A blowtorch is also handy, but you may damage the grease in the diff if you use it too much, but you can regrease it before putting it back together. I think it's just a circlip to release the cv joint from the diff.

Getting them out is simple enough but it is a bit of a struggle to get the splined end back into the hub.

Mine went back in easily. Although I hadn't removed the other end from the diff, so it was still fully seated thus giving me enough room.

No point in this posting really...!
