Hi MB people

My B service is due (C207 2016, 84000 miles) . I asked prestige motors of Herts for a quote including the B service, ATF service and brake service. He said it would be 750 total.

I asked another local German specialist service center) and he recommended a major B service (ATF and brakes too), which as you can see costs substantially more! Is major B service actually a thing? When I Google it I just find results for regular B service.

This is the first MB service for me so I was hoping for some advice. Does this seem like overkill? Is he just upselling? Prestige didn't give me a formal quote, he just said B service.

Any help much appreciated

Edit, I should say I don't think the vatrached quote is a rip off. I'm sure he's a decent guy with a good rep.

A service is engine oil and filter (plus checks, fluid top ups and lube etc)
B service is the same, plus brake fluid change.

On top of either you have additional items based on age/mileage. This is where the numbers come in, eg B5 etc.

It looks like one has quoted for additional items and one hasn't. The checker will sometimes indicate additional items, but very often they have already been done or not done at all, so I always check the DSB when determining which additional items are actually required.

In short, they are quoting for different things.

Moved out into a new thread for you.

You can go on the Mercedes site and put your car details in and it will advise what service is required and some additionals if they’re due. You can also get quotes from some dealers and use that to compare.
I’d definitely recommend an independent Mercedes specialist for a 6 years old car

You can put your details in here https://www.mymercedesservice.co.uk/ and it will tell you exactly what the car needs and prices from a dealer

Looking at the estimate it doesn't seem bad, air filters for £85 is cheap, they are £165 from Mercedes.

Your ATF is well overdue (Should be 5 years or 40k then every 4 years after that), brake fluid is every 2 years, air filters are every 4 years.

Put a MANN Frecious cabin filter in (Easy to get from ECP) Part No is FP29005/1.

For Oil get the OEM stuff from E-Bay, lot less than £16 a liter - this should do you for over 2 Services at £5.25 a liter

OEM Air filters (10 mins to change yourself) £68 against £100 from the garage

I can’t see a cost for the new ATF on the quote ? It’s got to be a few Litres even for a sump change

Usually a flat fee of around £250 - £300

On the invoice it is right at the bottom under "Trans fluid"

Bit of a strange quote in some ways as their labour rate is £65 p.h for service and £70 p.h for everything else. I like that its detailed because you can see how much each item is on the service so its fully transparent.

However within that quote is air and fuel filter replacement as part of the B Service. They are of course additional items at set mileage/time intervals and not obligitory replacements at the B service. The same with brake fluid replacement, thats every 2 years rather than part of any service.

Based on my current price structure, which firstly is a "fixed" price meaning I give one cost but it includes everything required for each operation and secondly, is probably cheaper than London just by location it would be the following:

B Service: £320
9 Speed ATF: £350
B/F: £60

Total: £730 Inc VAT.

Hi

This is great info and your total tallys well with the original £750 quote I had. I think all the extra things he quoted for are what he called a major service. I told him that I don't know when/if most of these things were done so he said he'd quote for everything and then we can go from there. Thanks to JBell I think I'll get my own engine oil and air/cabin filters (the oil is the only really unreasonable price TBF). Everything else is very good price-wise.

I'm going to go for all the extras as at least I'll know it's all done/peace of mind. I paid below market value for the car because there wasn't as much history as one would like.

Cheers

Thanks again everyone. This has been invaluable info for me as I'm quite the novice. I'll come back and let you know what I paid, for what etc and how I got on.

Cheers

In the same vein, we do the same.

So split out the A/B service, then add the additional items

We would be

B Service Inc brake fluid £324
9g oil change £390
Base cost - £714
Air filter, fuel filter, cabin air parts (additional items) £256.56
Labour for additional items. 1 hour £114
+ Additional items £1084.56 (Approx)

Glad to see somebody else do it like us. I find quoting line by line for each item too time consuming, especially when every 9g is the same, so we buy the same bits each time.
