"The VAG V6 only has one major weakness, the swirl flap mechanism can wear giving faults. The motor does a test on start up to measure the resistance between the flap and motor. If this goes above a certain value the EML goes on. It can be ignored and driven on no issue at all, but its an expensive fix around £1000. "

can be fixed for around £20 if you replace the flaps or go for a new intake

Thanks for the welcome back everyone

I do love my cars and would be happy to have most of them again. In fact I almost bought another A8. But I do like a change :D

Interesting comments on the VAG engine
I have to say I find it a really rough Diesel in comparison to the Mercedes or the Jaguar engine especially around town and thats in a double glazed A8 so lord knows what it would have been like in anything else? Having said that the A8 averaged mid 30's for a lot of miles on very varied roads and would often do over 40 on a run so I could hardly complain. I did do a lot of miles in her after all:)
The Xf would do over 40 on a run and was a lovely smooth engine and the handling was superb with the active suspension pack, and the R interior best of both worlds. I have to say it drove even better than the XK which I know takes some believing!! But the build quality was below par imho and I didn't see it taking a big mileage, I sold her (lost very little in 12 months too which was a change) and used half the money to grab the A8. They are incredible value and not too showy which is often useful in a world of lairy B*W's:lol: or A5's now!

I was heading into an E350 saloon but tried the coupe and thought what the hell. It's a bit harder ride than I am used to recently to be honest but the shove in the back is nice although the rear end loses traction so easily from a start after four wheel drive  I can see a learning curve necessary for a while.
I do miss the E55 badly and if it weren’t for the fuel costs I would have one back tomorrow (or the 63 now although I did try one and preferred the 55 , although it was not the latest version of the 63) cars are my weakness, as if I needed to explain that, and always will be hence I have channelled a bit of my attention into older classics to help me run more sensible daily drivers !!
My old Triumph may not be the quickest but it sounds lovely and gives me top down motoring in the summer for a fraction of the cost of a modern box. Work in progress but she isn't bad 37 years old and 65K under her belt.

The mini is on a rotating jig at the moment undergoing a full nut bolt restoration, currently painted and in the re-build stage:D Hopefully on the road for the summer if I get my finger out and get back in the garage after all this Turkey wine and stuff

I have had 2 220cdi engined cars and mechanically both have been ok. My 320cdi car gave 2x engine component failures with repair costs over 45k miles of nearly £3000.

Could you re word that,,, Steve likes or gets his cars in estate

I apologise. Lesson taken, Malcolm. The way I worded it could have a different meaning for someone else.

Nice one. I am trying to lay my hands on a Canon DSLR EOS 5D MK (III). I love the DSLRs.

It's a great body. Youll need the 17 to 40 f2.8 canon lens, not cheap but with a body like that you need decent lens.

I'm Nikon user through and through, a D600 or D800 with the 16 to 35 F4 is my dream set up.,,
